Happy holidays to everyone here! (Written in my native language.)

Wishing Happy Holidays to all!

Very little snow here at the moment...a part of me is feeling a sense of relief (as I don't need to shovel); however, there's also another part of me that misses "the white fluffy stuff".

Grateful that I have a lovely and fresh Christmas tree--all lit and decorated.  A friend brought me to a tree farm, he cut it for me, drove it and us back to my place, and helped me set it up.

Life is good.

Merry, merry!

I just shared Mr Serling's "Night of the Meek" with my wife and mom-in-law: Art Carney playing a soused department store Santa.

Seasons Greetings... Merry Christmas and Happy Hanukkah !!   Hope everyone can take some time off and visit with loved ones and listen to some of those CDs that are collecting dust!!

Christmas was magical when I was young. My dad hates Christmas and I am starting to follow him. A lot of stress and still almost everything sucks. No snow. No mustard. No peanuts. So so presents. Life offers so little these days compared to good old days. There are ways to fight depression, even effective ones, but Christmas isn't one of those... ...give me summer. At least it has warmth and light to offer...  8)

I'm not sure if I'm up for that right now!  Glad that you all had fun viewing it.  :)

Thank you and hope that you did too!

Snow arrived over the night, so I'll be out shoveling today--after coffee and breakfast.   :)

Seriously? No snow in Finland at this time of the year? I'm aghast... What is the temperature like?

No snow in Southern/southwest Finland. Temperature has been today +3°C. Gulf of Finland provides warmth in Helsinki area and can slow down the arrival of winter/snow unless the weather is cold which it hasn't been. We had a couple of days a little below zero, but those days were dry meaning no snow. Even if some snow comes down, it melts away fast. We have these dark Decembers every now and then, especially in the 21st Century thanks to climate change. I guess snow comes at some point in January... ...here is the snow situation in Finland. About 2 feet of snow in Lapland (the darkest blue area), but here in Helsinki nothing!

What kind(s) of mustard and peanuts did you used to have? And what did you eat them with?

Dijon mustard and walnuts. Dijon with ham. Walnuts just as they are. Cracking them open with walnut tongs is part of good Christmas don't you agree?

I take it those numbers represent snow depths (in cm)? Sorry to hear things are so warm. We are nearly 20º of latitude south of you and we're getting lows below -20ºC occasionally (currently -12ºC). We have a snowpack as well, though this early in the year it's not very deep, maybe 15 cm or so. We lost most of it once due to a warm spell (up to +13ºC at one point) and lots of rain, about 27 mm, so most everything that's on the ground now fell over the past week and a half.

Yes, those numbers are snow depth in cm.

There is more to the climate than just the latitude. Bucharest is at about the same latitude as you (44°N) and their temperature today is almost the same as here in Helsinki. As I said, the Gulf of Finland provides warmth before it frozes up which it hasn't done yet. The weather is getting colder now. -2°C today and looks like even -10°C next week. Snow is possible next week, but maybe just a little if at all.

And of course, western Europe is warmed by the Gulf Stream - for now, as long as the meridional overturning circulation (AMOC) is alive. In the Western Hemisphere, conditions at your latitude are arctic or subarctic. So yes, I'm well aware that latitude doesn't tell the whole picture. I was just marveling at how complex weather and climate are.
