I felt a bit sorry that I had to leave this one out.
I'm not really an Elgarian, but I do love his late introspective works.

I feel bad for leaving out a lot of works --- the Violin Sonata included as I really love this work. Introduction & Allegro, Sea Pictures, The Kingdom, and The Music Makers were other works I love that I regretted not including, but, hey, at least they're honorable mentions.

Moonfish

Difficult thread!!

Here goes..:

Cello Concerto
The Dream of Gerontius
Symphony No 1
Sospiri
Violin Concerto

...but it feels awful to eliminate some of the other works!   :'( :'( :'(

The Apostles, Op. 49
The Kingdom, Op. 51
Symphony No. 2, Op. 63
Symphony No. 1, Op. 55
The Dream of Gerontius, Op. 38

These are all large scale works because Elgar is brilliant on small scale works but out-of-this-world on large scale works. ;D

Spatial distortion is a serious problem deteriorating headphone listening.

As someone who has carried the flag for the Violin Concerto, I'm seriously surprised you didn't choose it. :-\

How the devil did I miss this??!!

Straight out of the blocks, here we go (I don't think I could arrange them in order):

Spirit of England
Violin Concerto
Enigma Variations
1st Symphony
Violin Sonata

It's touch and go between the violin sonata and the piano quintet.

Excellent choices. Love all of those works dearly.

P.S. I'm not sure how you missed this poll/thread, but it being buried amongst the other threads certainly didn't help matters.
