Kapustin was perhaps the greatest contemporary piano composer. His ingenious mixture of classical and jazz idioms made him stand out, but unfortunately he remains rather obscure. Here's hoping that his music can find its way into more programs in the future.

Sad news indeed. I had not heard of him until a friend bought me this CD of his music a few years ago which I thoroughly enjoyed:

"Courage is going from failure to failure without losing enthusiasm" (Churchill).

'The test of a work of art is, in the end, our affection for it, not our ability to explain why it is good' (Stanley Kubrick).

RIP. I don't listen to his music often but when I do, I've found it immensely enjoyable. He's one of those composers who proved that classical music can truly be "fun"!
"Music is enough for a lifetime, but a lifetime is not enough for music" - Sergei Rachmaninoff

I decided to listen to Kapustin's 24 Preludes & Fugues in light of the news of his passing. Fascinating stuff; I will have to track it down on CD. Rest in peace to the maestro.
