Gurn, your posts win so frequently, I am almost bored with winning  ;)

Very kind, Karl. I actually rather admire the way you have managed to distill your particular brand into so few words. For me, the challenge is to make each post have exactly 140 characters, so no space goes unused. :D

Thank you.  I get into a multitude of subjects, not just music. 8)

In response to the thread...

I used to have facebook, I had an account for a few months but decided to have my account deleted because nothing happened and I found it pretty useless in my life (emails, phone numbers etc are fine for me to communicate to people)

I had instagram and posted photos to it before Facebook bought it and now I refuse to ever go back.

I have a twitter account which I only intend to use for professional purposes to promote concerts, news and other stuff.

Forums are the only thing that interest me in terms of communication with other people on the internet apart from emails and skype and things like that.

Some people's content would be greatly improved, if they kept it to 140 characters 8)
You joke, but Stephen Fry has said that restricting himself to 140 characters has actually made himself a better writer in general, not just on Twitter. I kind of feel the same way. I'm a pretty wordy writer, so concision is helpful.

Completely agree; just edited it out of my previous reply...  ;)

Too wordy.  Snipped, it could read: "You joke, but Stephen Fry said that a 140 character limitation has improved his writing generally, not just on Twitter.  I agree.  I'm verbose, so concision helps."  42 words down to 27.

But a focus on concision can have its drawbacks.  This reminds me of an old joke I read about the Reader's Digest effect on writing: "Brevity is . . . wit."

Me, too. It's not like you need them 90% of the year in Florida, anyways.

You need an office job where you write 100+ emails a day.  That demands brevity.  It carries over into other endeavors.  Fair warning: it can cause problems with a spouse.

Someone should have recommended that to Karl Ove Knausgaard.

I can't prove this this, but. Imagine aliens want to conquer earth. Wouldn't it be useful for them if all the idiots self-identify, to help with the cull? Hence Twitter.

I'll counter this with imagining aliens going after intellectuals first, leaving 99% of twitter users free to roam what is now a barren wasteland, devoid of resources and internet connections.

I don't get why Twitter exists, either. It's just like facebook, but... more limiting.
