Just catching up with this. I'd be very interested to hear that recording. Glad to hear it all went well.
I will definitely post it when I have it! Not sure when it will be coming through yet :)

more electronic stuff, here's the first piece from colours op. 20

https://drive.google.com/file/d/1OmntwRhfgRjBQYf5AZm1CoF1NLxdcrxE/view?usp=sharing

the movements are blue 1, pink 1, white, pink 2, blue 2

I will make some of the other ones over the next month or two. I'm basically just using this piece as a way to help me get a feel for some longer forms. The whole suite will over 40 minutes in length.

jess

blue 2 is literally just gonna be blue 1 in retrograde. By the time the listener gets around to that, I am hoping there will be a weird sense of 'oh I remember this, but it's...happening in the wrong order' which I have always thought is a nice way to conclude any long piece.

white is gonna be 15 minutes and the slowest paced movement in the suite, drawing heavily on more ambient, breathy sounds and probably also passages of pure white noise, and both pink movements will probably be fast paced and shorter than the blue movements. (I might include pink noise in the pink movements as well, but we will see)

Great to see you back among us, Jess! Ah, I remember when you were just a wee lad pressing Ligeti on everyone (back on that other classical forum) ... ;)

And très cool to hear that the JACK Quartet performed your music! Best wishes to you.

Lovely to see you again too! A lot has changed since I was 14! But I am still a very big Ligeti fan, that's for sure.

I just made a preview of my upcoming colours op. 20 public

aaaa oh my god I am actually a lot more proud of the white movement of colours than I thought I would be. I anticipate that I have the remaining fourth movement completed by the end of the week, and then I will release the full suite. :)

Aahhhh I am so excited to have finished this. I feel as if this is truly the first piece I have been able to successfully compose after making a recovery from some depression which held me back for pretty much an entire year. One of my friends told me it sounds powerful, which is a very nice thing to hear indeed! It will likely be some folio work I will be submitting for my degree along with my upcoming Praxis cantata (20 minutes) and an orchestral work (7 minutes), totalling about 67 minutes of music for a semester's work. I think that should be enough before I begin my final semester.

Edited the recording slightly to compress the dynamics a little and make it sound a little less 'tinny' https://soundcloud.com/jess-maticevski/palimpsest-1
