As someone with an interest in the History of Polar Exploration, I find this story so extraordinary and was very moved to see the incredibly preserved 'Endurance' - Sir Ernest Shackleton's famous ship (crushed by the sea ice in 1915).

Yet another thing we share.  I've been obsessed with this story and absolutely loved any book on Shackleton I could find.  So excited they found it!  Maybe in the cold weather, Frank Hurley's lost pictures might be intact since they were glass plates, not film.  Maybe we'll one day see many more original pictures that Shackleton forced him to leave behind when they abandoned ship to lighten the load they took.

Admittedly, I only saw one documentary about that Shackleton expedition years ago but it is a fascinating story how they managed to survive and avoid total desaster.

Really neat to hear that they found the ship and that it is in such good shape!

Whilst reading about the discovery, I ran across another story having to do with the voyage...about a stowaway.  I wasn't certain at first whether it was a human or a cat (or a cat and a human) who was/were the stowaway(s)!

It's amazing Steve! I've read a lot about Scott and Shackleton (a far greater explorer IMO) and I found it very moving to see 'The Endurance' once again.

Am delighted to hear that you are interested in this stuff as well. Years ago I went to a talk given by Shackleton's son (Lord Shackleton) in London. I asked him to sign my copy of 'Shackleton's Antarctic Boat Journey'. He signed it 'Shackleton - the son'.

I understand PD, although I thought that you might like to see the bronze sculpture of Mrs Chippy on the grave of his friend, the ship's carpenter Harry McNeish.
