Do you collect art?

Nah, I'm perfectly happy to keep a few museum prints on my walls and never expect to own anything original.

Art is for the rich. Why even bother buying original work when the good stuff costs millions?

I would like to start collecting but the art world is so intimidating I don't know where to begin.

I collect already, as I both enjoy the pieces I've been able to afford and I feel it's beneficial to support the artists.

Collect art? are you nuts? I'm already spending hundreds a month on CDs!

I am quite taken with some of those works, especially (you may note) the Reiger.

Isn't that a marvelous piece? Some of the time Chris tends to overload his paintings so that they come out too busy, but here he was particularly restrained. If you want a copy of the print for yourself, I wouldn't be surprised if they're still available:

As I live with two richly talented artists, my walls (all right, our walls) are covered with beautiful and inspiring works.

This is a work-in-progress which will not, in fact, hang in our apartment, as it will go to the home of the subject:

Well, I must have missed this thread recently - but my wife & I have been eclectic art collectors for 45 years - nearly all of our walls are covered w/ limited prints (lithographs, etchings, etc.), photographs, and some carved masks from Africa, Caribbean, & Thailand; on the shelves & tables are collections of kachinas (nearly all Hopi), sculptures, blown glass works, vases, woodworks (vases & other turnings).

Just checked my computer drive and had some pics shown below - not many of our prints (because of glass reflections) - Dave :)

I love african masks. I have but one, a Toussian mask from Burkina Faso. Toussian masks look often like this:

My best friend has a collection of about 20 toussian, dogon (Mali) and other african masks. I see him often for movie seances. I never fail to admire his collection. He sold me the toussian mask, which is a bit more elaborate than the one shown above (three bird heads on top: more bird heads = more power to the healer/sorcerer).

Hi André - great mask!  Looks like a museum piece - redid the den picture and added labels - several of those African ones were brought back by my in-laws from a trip to Africa - we obtained them in the early '80s.  The top mask from Haiti is actually leather which was formed over a wooden carved face (bought that one in St. Thomas a while back).  Dave :)

Very nice !

Maybe I can get my wife to take pictures, transfer them to USB key or whatever so I can post them here. That kind of technology feat defeats me  ???. In any cae, the toussian mask I have is very close to the one I show.
