Today is the 90th birthday of Morton Subotnick, a perfect excuse to create a thread on one of the pioneers in electronic music. Perhaps best known for Silver Apples of the Moon (1967) and The Wild Bull (1968), he is still composing, including developing a curriculum for young listeners.

On April 23 at 8 pm, Roulette in New York will have a celebration with live performances from singer Joan La Barbara (his wife) and others, guest speakers, sound installations, and video tributes.

"I set down a beautiful chord on paper—and suddenly it rusts."
—Alfred Schnittke (1934-1998)
