Hey GMG. My name is Nathan. Already see a few familiar names from another forum just a few threads down, here. I was referred to this site by SimonNZ, in hopes of a fun outlet to talk about music without too many conflicts (as is sometimes not the case with other forums).

Few things about me:

- I'm 25.
- I live in Dallas, TX.
- I am an engineering student.
- I have no formal musical training, though I can play guitar and a bit of piano and I can usually work my way through a basic piece of sheet music based on pure internet self-education. I have made some attempts at composition with varying degrees of success (lots of little fragments...).
- I have listened to classical music for ~3 years. However, when I find something to be passionate about, I tend to obsess like no other.
- I like lists.
- Don't take me too seriously. If you have a problem with me, I'm someone that would love to talk about it and work it out. Chances are, I'm having a bad day and I'll own up to it.

Hi Nathan, welcome to GMG. I think you'll find this a friendly place - many people here from all over the world, with many different listening interests. Enjoy!

Welcome aboard, Nathan! Who are some of your favorite composers?

I enjoy many things from every era, whether it be Machaut, Gesualdo, Rameau, Bach, Mozart, Grieg, Mahler, whatever... but I'll have to let some folks down and say I've been a contemporary man to the core, this past year or two. Everything from Rautavaara and Rihm to Lachenmann and Neuwirth = Gimme.

You may find some details here: http://www.last.fm/user/arcaneholocaust/library/artists?date_preset=ALL_TIME :)

Howdy there Nathan. Greetings from a Yankee living in Mozart's Vienna. Welcome to the forum.  8)

Do you know our prolific contributor Brian, who is also mid-20s and lives in Dallas?

Very nice, lots of favourites there, and on the lastfm list.

Nope, but it's good to know I'm not alone down here. I have one friend that will sip expensive coffee with me and talk about Bach and Stockhausen and David Lynch and so on, and everyone else... Not so much.

It's true! Although for conversation about Stockhausen, you might have to fly to New York and talk to Sforzando.  8)

Not so. I am easily reachable by email, PM, or phone.

Wow, this is hilarious. I think you might be my evil twin (or perhaps I'm the evil one, who knows...). My name is also Nathan.

- I'm 25 (24, turn 25 next month).
- I live in Dallas, TX Virginia (though my cousin lives in Dallas and I have been there many times).
- I am an engineering student (not a student anymore, though).
- I have no formal musical training, though I can play guitar violin and a bit of piano and I can usually work my way through a basic piece of sheet music based on pure internet self-education. I have made some attempts at composition with varying degrees of success (lots of little fragments...).
- [...] when I find something to be passionate about, I tend to obsess like no other (I assure you that other GMG members can attest to this).
- I like lists.
- Don't take me too seriously. If you have a problem with me, I'm someone that would love to talk about it and work it out. Chances are, I'm having a bad day and I'll own up to it.
Beethoven's Op. 133 -- A fugue so bad that even Beethoven himself called it "Grosse".

Part of me (a majority) likes you already. Another part of me (a minority) thinks that two of me would make a valid justification for a nuclear weapon.

Has anybody read Tim Federle's two "Nate" books - Better Nate than Ever and Five, Six, Seven, Nate!?
