Well - blast.

ClassicsOnline had gone to digital downloads only some time ago,
but they had graciously left their old database still accessible - one
could browse by composer, and could see the back-cover of CD's
often when Amazon, etc., did not post them.

Checking on something today, I found that since Thursday(?) or so of last week, that accessibility is dead.
Damn shame. There was some useful information there.
The new search engine and look is utter rubbish.
Saint-Saëns, who predicted to Charles Lecocq in 1901: 'That fellow Ravel seems to me to be destined for a serious future.'

That is a shame. I think they were quite useful to me when I was researching my Holmboe discography.

It's one of the things that most bothers me about online music, the tendency to think that giving you the sound files is the end of the job. It's especially problematic when the metadata attached to tracks is inconsistently presented or even downright wrong.
Nobody has to apologise for using their brain.

(allmusic has lately started offering back covers - and hi-res, too ... though so far I've only seen a few)
