Since yesterday the finals are being held at the Palais des Beaux arts.

Marin Alsop conducts the Belgian National Orchestra.  The "imposé" is quite lovely . "A butterfly's dream" by Claude Ledoux.

Lukas Vondracek's version of Rach 3 brought the house down, yesterday.  Blood, sweat and tears in grand style.

However, he gave the best version of Ledoux' "A butterfly's dream" which I find increasingly a very beautiful work It lasts ca 13 minutes and has a magical feel . It definitely is music of today, written by a composer who masters the age old techniques of composition... Très raffiné!

During the semi-finals another good work was performed by the 24 pianists: Tears of light by Fabian Fiorini. read more

But, yes, mostly dead composers (cfr. all other great competitions...)

Lukas Vondracek has won the 2016 piano competition! The International Queen Elisabeth Grand Prize - Queen Mathilde Prize receives 25.000 eur and numerous concerts in Belgium and abroad.




The prizewinners

First Prize : Lukas Vondracek
Second Prize : Henry Kramer
Third Prize : Alexander Beyer
Fourth Prize : Chi Ho Han
Fifth Prize : Aljosa Jurinic
Sixth Prize : Alberto Ferro

The six unranked laureates, in alphabetical order : Atsushi Imada, Yoonji Kim, Kana Okada, Dmitry Shishkin, Hans H. Suh and Larry Weng.

Lukas Vondracek has also won the VRT-Prize and Alberto Ferro the Musiq'3 Prize of the RTBF.
