I´ve always enjoyed

- Previn, Kim, Ohyama, Hoffmann on rca (1993)

a lot, but only heard a few others.

Thank you. I do not know that one so I will have to look it up.

Those came to my mind right away upon seeing the thread ... such colourful and warm recordings!

Rubinstein seemed to have a special rapport with Mozart and the Guarneri Quartet.

Also treasurable is Rubinstein's performance of Mozart's Piano Concerto No. 23.
"Why do so many of us try to explain the beauty of music thus depriving it of its mystery?" Leonard Bernstein. (Wait a minute!! Didn't Bernstein spend most of his life doing exactly that???)

My favourite Mozart concerto is KV 491 - and the Rubinstein recording with Krips (another prime Mozartean) is one of my favourite recordings of a Mozart piano concerto.

Yes. I know it well. Rubinstein was terrific in Mozart. Too bad he didn't record more of the concertos.

Their Brahms collaboration was terrific too.
But I never liked that 23 as much as many other recordings from that period, such as Kempff.

Yes. Their recording of Brahms 2 is still my favorite version after all these years.
I bought it when it first came out on LP.

The Sonnerie disc is on the way to me ... and I'll also order the Buchbinder/Festetics one, I think. Have no PI recordings at all yet.

Monsieur Croche

Vintage sound re-engineered and all, the The very remarkable 1946 recording of the Piano Quartets by George Szell and the Budapest String quartet is an archival 'must.'

Best regards.

Following the recommendation above I also bought that Sonnerie CD and I found the performances to be sparkling. I am sure that you will enjoy it.

I have a Naxos recording of these works that satisfied me immensely over the years -- I really don't see the need for another. If I recall correctly from the CD notes Mozart had planned to write 6 of these but stopped after two.

The Menuhin Festival Quartet on Naxos is very good; I don't think you need another, although it could be interesting to get one on old instruments like Badura-Skoda/Festetics as contrast.

How unfortunate!  :-X
Spatial distortion is a serious problem deteriorating headphone listening.
Crossfeeders reduce spatial distortion and make the sound more natural
and less tiresome in headphone listening.

My favourite set of those I've heard is Solti with the Melos Quartett (curious, considering neither performer is among my favourites individually). I am intrigued by samples I've heard from the Avos Quartetto, but this seems to be NA, on disc at least.
