My answer changes constantly, but right now:

80 (which badly needs a nickname to encapsulate its eccentricities and power!)
82 "Bear"
93 "Flatulent"

If Jessop had allowed five, 80 and 93 would have made my list. Even with three, I had to think long and hard before eliminating them.

3 is not enough. This is roughly like naming one *movement* from Beethoven's or Bruckner's 9 symphonies

My current list of favorite Haydn symphonies contains thirty-one...and that's still not enough  ;D

Come on, Jo. Pretend there's a gun to your head: now pick three!

I thought hard about 45, 59, 67, 92, 95, and 104, too.

Last year's Haydn symphony poll was "top ten"!

Gurn Blanston

So, my hundreds of Haydn recordings have suddenly disappeared from the earth, and only parts of 3 of them remain. Which parts do I wish they were?

45, simply because it is brilliant from beginning to end.
92, it is a non-stop array of unique little items which add up to a great trip.
100, because dammit, I like Turkish percussion and always will.

This jessop person is a brutal animal...  :D

I picked 45, 88 and 102. As essential for me I'd add also

103
104
99
97
92
90
86
83
82
80
70
44
31
...

There are few Haydn symphonies I could do without but if I keep thinking about ones I want to keep in favoritest lists I will end up with about 50 or so...

Haha! I picked 2, secure in the knowledge that a third one could be potentially any other one! 52 and 92 aaaaand all the rest. 8)

I do believe Haydn wrote by far the most interesting symphonies in the latter half of the 18th century.  :)

Yes, 52 and 92...both included on my List of 31 Favorites.

As this is always changing, my list today would be...

49 "La passione"
80 "La syncopation"
98 "La solo"

I cried leaving out 45, it's the only Haydn score I own, and it's one of his best. A truly unique composition from any era.

I voted for 67, 84 and 102. Strongly considered 46.

An extended favourites list would also include 44, 47, 68, 76, 80, 82, 83, 85, 86, 88, 90, 92, 93, 94, 98, 99, 100, 101, 103 and 104, at very least.

Jo498

46 is probably my favorite and the most interesting of the major key symphonies around 1770, I forgot to mention it further above.

Coming to the conclusion that I need to listen to everybody's favorites "for research"!

Where do you guys find the nicknames of 98 and 99?
