Which Lang do you prefer?

Bernhard Lang
Klaus Lang

Le Moderniste and I are in disagreement over which Austrian Lang is cooler and wrote gooder music. Both have written some incredible music and both are rather bald, although personally I tend to like Klaus Lang's music just a little bit more!

So I am opening up this debate to the rest of GMG.

Bernhard Lang (born 24 February 1957, Linz)

Klaus Lang (born 26 April 1971, Graz)

I can't even vote -- apples and oranges! (And full disclosure: I interviewed Klaus Lang a few years ago, when he did a concert here at the Austrian Cultural Forum.) Klaus's music is fascinating, much on the quiet side (as you probably know).

But Bernhard Lang's output it totally fascinating, too, in a completely different way. I've heard a few of his pieces live by the Talea Ensemble here -- fantastic new music group, with a real dedication to unusual composers from all over the world.

Even though I deprecate choices, particularly binary ones, I learned a new composer from this, for which I am glad.

I'd have to listen to a lot more before I could choose, but I probably wouldn't want to choose, anyway. I can like both Bernard and Klaus. And do.

As long as no one picks Lang Lang.  >:D

(And that's all I can contribute to this debate. Never heard a note of either man's music.)
