My newest composition, a violin concerto - what do you think about it yet?

I'm note sure how to continue because I have some trouble with the form of the piece.
So far I've introduced two themes with some development and I continued with a quick 6/8 part which is not finished yet (in fact the mp3 will end abruptly).
Some suggestions or ideas how to press this in a good form (Larry Rinkel? :) ) would be very nice. (Of course you can also just tell me how you like the piece!)

I'm sorry for the very bad sound of the solo violin, some of the higher notes Finale does not even play. So please read the score while listening.

Sorry for ignoring you of late, Rappy. I'll try to help out as soon as I can.

No problem, I appreciate your help very much, but I can't expect you to give detailed reviews on everything I compose.
I'm just wondering why the threads of other GMG composers are so very well visited and nobody (apart from very few, e.g. you) cares about my compositions. Are they that bad?

Two quick things, rappy.

1. Since the first flute starts the piece with a B-flat in the third measure, you probably ought to add a courtesy natural to the B in measure 4.

2. The piece starts pretty clearly in D minor;  is there some reason you are not using the key signature of D minor?

rappy

Thanks for your quick reply. Yes, there are many more measures where the accidentals are not clear, I think I'll "clean" the score when I'm finished with the music. Considering the key, I don't want to use keys in that style of music because then I had to change them very often and sometimes it's not even clear in which key we are - I think avoid keys makes the score easier to read.

Well, but the first 50 or so measures of the piece pretty clearly relate to the key which you establish at the beginning (D Minor).  Orchestral players who are playing in D Minor will read the music more intuitively if you use the key signature;  this passage, at any rate, is not so disorientingly chromatic as to render a key signature either meaningless, or an annoyance.  But I'll be interested to see what Larry's thoughts on this might be.

Not at all. Excluding the people who have studied professionally, I think you have more talent than most of the younger composers here.

Rappy, just so you know: I'm another someone who always reads your threads and downloads your compositions. I just don't have anything substantial to say (because I've got practically no musical training myself) so I generally choose to remain silent. My contributions in the other composers' threads (as you can notice easily enough) are always just friendly idle blather. ;D
