Thank you!!

Wow! You are living the dream!

I've fantasized about living in Vienna. A bit more sophisticated in musical tastes than Tampa!  ;D

Ah, living the dream. Not at the moment. Lately the summers here are awful and the biggest problem is that Austria is a country where A/C is few and far between. Nothing like the USA where A/C is everywhere which helps someone like myself to survive the summer heat. I come originally from Los Angeles and was shocked to find that A/C here in Vienna was pretty much none existent. Then when there is A/C many of the Viennese steer clear because they feel that if they are exposed to A/C they will catch pneumonia and die. Living in Tampa I bet you have A/C. Now that's living the dream.  ;D

Victrola Regina.

For a moment there, I thought your av might be Mennin.

And welcome!

Thank you!

Good for you! A lot of folks wouldn't have got "Mennin"!  :)

Wow! You mean Beethoven didn't have AC? He could have moved to Tampa. By 1827, NOBODY here would have known who he was!

Yes we have AC in Tampa. My worst fear and anxiety is that the AC will break down....and it has quite a few times!
Florida would be inhabitable without AC.

Just remember, the cooler weather will be there very soon.

Must be nice to be able to attend a concert/opera 365 days a year. In Tampa, NOT!!  ;D

Not sure I have seen that photo!

Many years ago, we played Canzona in a North Jersey Region Band.  Loved it then, love it now.

My dad used to look like that in the 1940's (from photos).

So many great American symphonists in the mid 20th century. Mennin was one. Now, almost all those great composers, forgotten.  :(

Name changed from hpowders to El Píthi back to hpowders.

A real Píthi, that I can't be more decisive!  :(

Welcome aboard! Nice avatar!

Thanks, but I found my birth certificate and it has "hpowders" on it, so I recently changed it to the latter.  :)

Always a good idea, especially since you found out who you are. ;) Btw, this avatar of yours is Peter Mennin, correct?

So I take it, Mennin is your favorite composer or he just one of many for you?

Clearly one of many 20th century American composers badly in need of a revival.

I mean, how many more sets of the Beethoven 9 do we still need, while the music of Schuman, Mennin, Creston, Piston and Harris gathers dust?

I certainly wouldn't argue for the fact that a revival needs to be in order and this goes for the other composers you mention.

It just destroys me every time I open a new Fanfare magazine (errrr.... book?) and find so many Beethoven symphony reviews.
Under "Schuman", "Piston", "Harris"....usually nothing.
