Due to the revival in the catsup/ketchup thread, was wondering what you enjoyed and if there is something local or homemade that the rest of us need to try.

A bit to my own surprise (because it is not as if it were anything new to me), this year I find that I do enjoy tabasco.  (Not local, no.)

Aldi's has a special opportunity purchase (ie, they don't and won't carry it always, likely avail. elsewhere though haven't seen it) I can recommend: Sriracha Salsa distributed by Red Gold in IN. Medium works for me; I bought a dozen bottles of the stuff : rich tomato flavor, heavy on garlic, pleasant bite or tang, palate-depending. Good alone as dip with tortilla chips or mixed with sour cream.

Cholula, my favorite! And in a close second, Crystal Hot Sauce, another Louisiana product: not quite as spicy as Tabasco.

And speaking of Tabasco, I highly recommend their Green Pepper (Jalapeño) Sauce. Despite the main ingredient, less spicy than regular Tabasco.

Or then, there are products like this:

Yes it says mild. I didn't believe mild would be the right choice, I have a very high tolerance for hot.  Mild was a good choice.

baked potatoes.

Mint sauce. Not jelly, the vinegary stuff with leaves. Best thing ever on baked potatoes.

I've discovered Balsamic Vinegar which makes salad much more interesting.

Yes, its the best.  I occasionally use walnut vinegar, when I want something milder.  Walnut oil is actually very good with salad but in small quantities.  Something like 1/3, 2/3 olive oil.

Must look out for this - sounds good - thanks.

L'originale.

We've also been trying out various srirachas, two or three;  they've each had a slightly distinctive character, and each has been quite good, I think.

I do have a marginal preference, will post a pic later.

How much is too much?

A sushi chain in Osaka Prefecture has apologized for serving fish with excessive wasabi to foreign customers but denied that any ill intent or discrimination was behind the stunt.

"We apologize for causing trouble on the internet about our services for customers," Fujii Shokuhin Co. said in a statement on its website.

The company, based in Ibaraki, Osaka Prefecture, runs the Ichibazushi chain of sushi shops, which has been accused of spicing up its food with excessive amounts of the green, nose-searing, eye-watering condiment over the past year or two at its Nanba outlet in central Osaka.

The company claims the extra wasabi — often twice the normal amount — was added in response to foreign customers who were seeking more excitement in their raw fish.

But the gesture backfired for customers, apparently from South Korea, who weren't fans of the seasoning, it said.
