Dedalus, did you read Gurn's post above? The issue is not the sexual content (at the moment). The issue is discussing and/or rehashing issues at another forum, which we ask you to do via private message.

Thank you.

To be clear by trolling I don't mean deliberately provoking reactions by egging people on, I just thought it would be funny to see reactions that might arise.  Maybe that's being a troll, I don't know.  I knew it was against the rules and was entirely expecting it to be deleted, but I like to have fun, and it was meant just to be a funny little lark.  I didn't get any infractions, it was just deleted.  I even mentioned the deletion in the "thoughts and discoveries that don't deserve a thread to themselves" and mentioned that I wasn't surprised or upset, and that post was not deleted.  I suppose I care much less about this other forum now that I've decided this one is much cooler, so I feel like I can just mess around and get a few laughs in while I'm at it.  Again, I'm a terrible person.

Family friendly is pretty subjective.  I know I was raised in a household in which sex and sexual matters were never spoken of as bad or shameful, which is something I give a lot of credit to my parents for.  But I knew was I was doing when I made that post, and the result was as expected.  I'm not going to pretend like I wasn't poking the bee's nest with that one.  But again, my concern for my reputation on that forum (or any for that matter) is of little consequence.  I essentially thought, well, hey, can I squeeze some more fun out of this other forum?  Let's see.  And I did.

And I can live with that. None of us are dicks, really, we just are tasked with protecting the forum. Our owner got a formal notice from Google a few years ago telling him that there was too much lascivious posting on our forum for it to be considered 'family friendly', which I agree is a subjective term. Therefore they weren't going to advertise here any more until he cleaned it up. Since income from adverts is what keeps us online, you know? So we tread a fine line between enjoyable adult conversation and things which can be overtly interpreted as 'family unfriendly'. FWIW, my background is very similar to your own. :)

I totally respect your recommendations and fully intend to listen to them.  I didn't mean for this thread to turn into some kind of cross forum gossipping station, and for the most part it hasn't...  At least, nothing I said was disparaging of any forum.  I guess I just wanted more people in on the (admittedly probably lame) joke, which was kind of pointless due to its expedient deletion.  But I often don't think about things before doing them and can be rather careless in regards to consequences.  Ehh, I'm trying to figure out what my point was.  I just wanted to have some fun but I hear you guys loud and clear!

It is a pleasure to have you here, don't mistake anything I may have written for any other intention on my part. Going forward, we are, all of us, GMG'ers and naught else. :)

A slight tendency to self-contradiction here, I think.

Maybe!  But there is a difference between trying to egg people on to get them annoyed and provoke a negative response for the fun of it and saying something to get interesting responses that everybody can enjoy, and in which nobody feels hurt or slighted.  I might try to stir the pot, but in my mind it's for everybody's benefit.  If interesting conversation arises as a consequence I consider it a success.  If anybody is offended, hurt, or in any way negatively impacted I consider it a failure.

mmmm think we are about to have another TC train wreck.......... Apparently "Starchy Straw poll" is not allowed...... Discussion on Elliot Carter was always going to get ugly on tC..... Lets call it the Straw Poll Incident.

Is Elliott Carter A Great Composer?
Yes, a great composer                                            22      44.90%
He was a fine composer but not among the greats   5      10.20%
No                                                                             6      12.24%
Unsure                                                                       2       4.08%
I don't know enough to decide                                 11     22.45%
Who cares                                                                  3       6.12%

Poster 1 - I suspect the majoriy of TC browsers looked at that poll and they really dont give a damn about Carter so did not vote. Which leaves two sets of people - Mozart/Beethoven/Bach supporters (ie composers from the generally accepted panteon of great composers) who want to challenege the absurdity of a claim - and Eliiot Carter supporters. The vast majority are most likely in the middle and did not vote. A staw poll across a million classical music lovers would probably yield less than 1% saying Carter is a great composer.

Eddie Response - Thats a pretty  Starchy straw poll...........

Mod Response (deleted my post and others but left poster 1 comments untouched? This thread has got a little contentious and somewhat off topic. Posts have been deleted or edited.

Please comment on the music not on the people who like (or dislike) it.

Yeah, feeling more and more an outcast...........

No need to feel outcast, or even downcast. You are allowed to build a new home for yourself here, as long as you promise to leave your troubles behind and bring your Elliot Carter collection with you when you come. We are BIG on leaving your troubles behind though. It sounds like you won't miss it much when you go.  :)

That's an interesting consideration that I hadn't thought of, or heard mentioned before on any other forums.

And a big +1 for leaving the "other place" to their own devices and moving forward and enjoying what we now have.

Odds have shortened considerably. Openly arguing with Mod is never good- Think I'll send Friendlyneighbourhood a PM and direct him this way...........

Did anyone screenshot it?  :-\
Don't worry he is still going latest two "Very mature moderator, very mature YOU CAN'T TAKE ANY CRITICISM."

and "my posts where deleted just now that challenged their work practices. I wrote them professionally and brought up reasonable points. This site is unprofessional and pathetic now"

Actually, if your interested friendly has now put his deleted posts in area 51 for all to see- while its lasts which  wont be long.....
