I can be a troll sometimes. Although I honestly think this should be a perfectly valid and uncontroversial line of inquiry. Decide for yourselves....

Heh, just as I saw your post there about the deletion...well, what was it?

Haha well.... The question was whether anybody had fapped to a musician or opera singer before. Got a few funny responses before the deletion at least.

What really would have made the thread take a dark turn instantly is if somebody mentioned Alma Deutcher.... Still can't help laughing though. I'm a terrible person.

Speaking as a former moderator there, any topic discussing sexual content is going to be removed almost immediately.  It's against the rules.

I thought you had gone mad lol. You've been of the more well-behaved members on that forum so far. I know it's all "natural" and that, but TC is a family friendly forum. I've got some very mildly risque posts deleted as well. I thought that it was a bit weird but I was more annoyed by the fact that my posts referring to the deletion were deleted immediately as well.

Okay, if receiving the answer will not misbecome me . . . just what is "fapped"?

Did you mods ever agree on what should be the policy on posts that have fairly obvious sexual innuendo etc.?

That was taken on a case-by-case basis, both on the context of the remarks and the intent.  It wasn't considered nearly as much of a priority though if I recall.  Obviously, I'm not going to give out any private information about the moderators here or in PMs, but this is just general policy stuff.

On second thought, let's not go to TC, it is a silly place.

I had to google it...it's the kind of term the first result for which in a search comes from the "urban dictionary"..."self.-gratification" would be the polite euphemism.

Really don't know why I'm writing in this thread....kind of ironic we're discussing here on GMG a self-proclaimed troll in another forum (a forum that seems to be decompsoing, AFAIK).

Had to look it up myself - it means masturbating.  'Fap' can also be used to describe someone or thing that is 'hot'.  While I am all for free expression, this was baiting and not masterful. One wonders how much of this forum owners can withstand before they say, "Hey, I've got other things I could be doing..."

Had to look that up.  The dictionary gives examples: Listening to right-wing talk-radio.

I know several people who do; they don't so much as listen to it really.  They wait for voice modulations that indicate anything on a scale from indignation to outrage, then their antennae go up and their heads start nodding and they become indignant, or outraged, too.

So let's talk for a minute.

TO all of our new (and I don't call you refugees) members, whom we welcome heartily.

You left 'there' for reasons which, frankly, we don't want to know about here. We are delighted you have decided to make us your new home and look forward to establishing new relationships with all of you.

In order to facilitate new beginnings, we are formally asking you to confine discussion of the 'bad old times' among yourselves, on PM's. Not least because we don't like the perception that there is any sort of dispute being fostered between TC and GMG. There isn't, nor will there be.

We are far more liberal in conversation topics than they are, possibly, but we also have our little buzzwords which will get posts deleted in a heartbeat. As much as it may be personal preference on the part of moderators as to what does or doesn't get 'passed', the main thing is the reputation of the forum. We are all adults here, pretty much, and we can have grown-up conversations. They won't be censored unless they are over the top. And everyone knows where the top is.

So let's make this about going forward, and not about how bad it may have been perceived in the past.

Thanks and welcome,
Gurn Blanston (on behalf of the mods)

To be clear by trolling I don't mean deliberately provoking reactions by egging people on, I just thought it would be funny to see reactions that might arise.  Maybe that's being a troll, I don't know.  I knew it was against the rules and was entirely expecting it to be deleted, but I like to have fun, and it was meant just to be a funny little lark.  I didn't get any infractions, it was just deleted.  I even mentioned the deletion in the "thoughts and discoveries that don't deserve a thread to themselves" and mentioned that I wasn't surprised or upset, and that post was not deleted.  I suppose I care much less about this other forum now that I've decided this one is much cooler, so I feel like I can just mess around and get a few laughs in while I'm at it.  Again, I'm a terrible person.

Family friendly is pretty subjective.  I know I was raised in a household in which sex and sexual matters were never spoken of as bad or shameful, which is something I give a lot of credit to my parents for.  But I knew what I was doing when I made that post, and the result was as expected.  I'm not going to pretend like I wasn't poking the bee's nest with that one.  But again, my concern for my reputation on that forum (or any for that matter) is of little consequence.  I essentially thought, well, hey, can I squeeze some more fun out of this other forum?  Let's see.  And I did.
