"Favorite" Beethoven symphony must be the G major, Hob I:88.

As for the ones actually by Beethoven, I clicked "No.2" in the poll; then read in the thread that's it's hipper than the hippest Fourth, so there ya go. I tend to like the even-numbered ones.

For me it's either the 7th or the first movement of the 9th  :P

I largely prefer any of Beetsy's late quartets to any of his symphonies to be brutally honest  :)
Ooooh and the early and middle quartets AND THE PIANO SONATAS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! The piano sonatas are probably some of the most inventive and original compositions he ever came up with. Even op. 10 sonatas were more explorative than the first two symphonies and first six string quartets.

I also prefer the piano sonatas & string quartets to the symphonies, but gotta say the Krivine/Chambre Philharmonique set of recordings has been somewhat revelatory in terms of sparking new enjoyment. Increasingly feeling like period instruments are necessary to comprehend and fully enjoy Beethoven's orchestration, at least for me.

(poco) Sforzando

So little love for poor little op. 21 . . . .

I usually put op.21 before op.68 which might be a little unfair but I hardly listen to the Pastoral anymore although I liked it a lot as a teenager, it was one the first ones I encountered and obviously easier to grok than the 3rd and the 9th although the piece I became obsessed with for several months some time later was the 5th.
And if it weren't for their great slow movements I'd rate 2 and 4 only marginally higher, so it is:

9 3

5 8
4 2
1 6
