Maybe the next round of hearings will materially move the needle.  Witch-hunts are much more challenging in the age of social media.

No its just easier for Trumpists to live in a bubble of denial than it was for Nixonites.

I read a couple of other forums with a heavy Trumpist contingent and its shocking what information they're simply unaware of because its never mentioned by Hannity or whoever. For example most are unaware Trump recently had to pay out 2 million as a punishment for defrauding his own charity. Wrt the impeachment testimonies its pretty clear most haven't watched or read any part of the testimony, they've only listened to the spin - if even that.

Not to mention a $25 million dollar settlement for another fraud scheme (Trump U), fines for self-dealing, a fine for illegal campaign contributions to the Pam Bondi campaign (attorney general FL) in exchange for not pursuing the Trump U fraud, being an unindicted co-conspirator in two felonies for which Michael Cohen is serving time, a score or more of sexual assaults and rapes . . . the list goes on.

You two are just silly.  The paltry fines are just a cost of doing business.  The accusations of sexual naughtiness are noise in the now petering out #MeToo "movement".  The current shiny bauble is strong-arming Ukraine.  That's what the Dems have pinned their hopes on for undemocratically removing the president.  Fortunately, as reported in AmPo, the Republicans are responding: Republicans to mount aggressive campaign against impeachment as spotlight turns to Judiciary panel

67 is a big number.

Meanwhile, the Trump campaign is running one of the largest, most sophisticated online campaigns ever - some Dems fret it's something they cannot match - and it is raising dough in even shitholes like Eugene, Oregon.

They don't even get to the point where they might try and justify it as "the price of doing business" through some bizarre logic.

It stops for them at the point where you say he was fined and they say "fake news".

Plus Lincoln was a "nigger-lover". Trump makes sure darkies know their place - especially after the nightmare scenario of a darkie president.
I'm hoping that was an attempt at humour.

No. That was seeing the world through the eyes of the Trump-Is-The-Chosen-One crowd. And explaining why they of that mindset would rate Trump higher than Lincoln in that poll.

I must conclude that you do not hold a position of material responsibility in a large, for profit company.

So?

You think Trump's charity and university were run the way any other businessperson would?

And "So"? ? So..these aren't subjective opinions, these are objective facts, and the Trumpists are dismissing objective facts as "fake news".

You are seriously ignorant of the business world.  There most certainly are people who can and do run both charitable and for profit entities in ways at least as rapacious as Trump did.

Business people who take their fiduciary responsibilities seriously will always assess the cost of compliance.  Sometimes it makes sense to knowingly violate laws and regulations.

'That mindset' is unfortunately one aspect of the human condition that at times makes me wonder about the efficiency of democracy. Problem is I've never been able to suggest a better alternative.

You, like Trump, seem unable to distinguish for profit companies from charities and political campaigns. Not a single one of the offenses I listed was a cost of doing business. The only candidate, the Trump U settlement, was paid after the business ceased to exist, and not from the funds of the business.

If America stopped staring at it's own navel for a moment it might realise Trump has made the US the laughing stock of most of the rest of the planet. Even Trump's boyfriend Putin is giggling himself silly as he pops another bottle of champagne. All this however is dancing on the deck of the Titanic in the light of global warming.

I'm aware some do, but that "always" is your projection.

As fot that second "so?": yeah that's what I expected you to say, but if you really need me to explain the danger of treating objective facts as "fake news"...but you don't, of course, this is just another wind-up

This is a fairly standard type of response from people who consider themselves worldly, etc.  It is also twaddle.  The reality is that American hard power - both military and economic - is still sufficient to cause serious harm to other countries, and the leaders of those countries know it.  That is why Trudeau, for instance, despite his posturing, signed the replacement to NAFTA like a good little boy.  That is why Chinese leaders raised alarms when the US was poised to crush Huawei.  That is why China and Russia are actively seeking ways to neutralize the power of the US Navy.  And so forth.  The US still possesses a combination of strengths no other single power, or even combination of powers, possess.  That will change, of course, but not until the 2030s at the soonest.

The bit about Pootie Poot is amusing, by the way.

In regulated companies (ie, most companies), compliance departments assess rules and regulations to fulfill two mandates.  If they do not, companies open themselves to lawsuits by investors, as well as potential punishment by applicable regulators.  Pretty basic stuff.

People are free to assess facts as they see fit.  It's not a wind up; your worldview is not universal.  That is also a fact.
