Archaic Torso of Apollo

A less well-known (but eminently worthy) composer, so only 3 choices for this one.

(Which probably won't stop some of you from listing more anyway.)

Mine:

Symphony No. 2
The Incredible Flutist (suite)
Piano Quintet

Close but not quite making the cut: both of the violin concertos

formerly VELIMIR (before that, Spitvalve)

"Who knows not strict counterpoint, lives and dies an ignoramus" - CPE Bach

springrite

Symphony #2
Violin Sonata
Viola Concerto
Do what I must do, and let what must happen happen.

Ken B

The violin concertos.
Then one of the chamber pieces, probably the quintet with flute.
I like all the Piston I have heard, without really loving any of it. But the VCs are outstanding.

Mahlerian

#3
Harmony
Counterpoint
Orchestration
"l do not consider my music as atonal, but rather as non-tonal. I feel the unity of all keys. Atonal music by modern composers admits of no key at all, no feeling of any definite center." - Arnold Schoenberg

vandermolen

#5
Three New England Sketches
Symphony 2
Incredible Flautist
"Courage is going from failure to failure without losing enthusiasm" (Churchill).

'The test of a work of art is, in the end, our affection for it, not our ability to explain why it is good' (Stanley Kubrick).

Monsieur Croche
