I played the oboe for twenty years, until a medical situation forced me to stop.
.

Verry sorry to hear that, it must have been very hard for you.

QuoteDo you have Holliger's recording with Brendel, on Philips ca. 1980?

I do and love it.
There is no theory. You have only to listen. Pleasure is the law. — Claude Debussy

Schumann is a composer who I used to be rather indifferent towards, but recently he's become a firm favorite of mine. His chamber music, in particular, is so enchanting to me with its wide variety of characters and emotions, and wonderful sense of dialogues between the instrumental parts. I'm not as familiar with his piano and vocal music as I perhaps should be.

Funf Stücke im Volkston for cello and piano
Introduction and Allegro appassionato for piano and orchestra (is there anything more glorious than that opening?!)
Piano Quintet in E-flat major
Piano Trio no. 1 in D minor
Violin Sonata no. 2 in D minor

With no disrespect meant to his four fine symphonies, of course....
"Music is enough for a lifetime, but a lifetime is not enough for music" - Sergei Rachmaninoff

vers la flamme

Fantasy in C major
Carnaval
Kreisleriana
Dichterliebe
Piano Quintet in E-flat major

With, again, no disrespect to the symphonies. They are very good, but I like all four about equally, and they're a couple notches below my appreciation for these five.
