Alert, alert...the monkey is on the loose. I repeat: the monkey is on the loose. Step away from your keyboard, snyprrr. Step away from the keyboard!

I have this and enjoy it. I prefer the 'band' version to the 'orchestra' version. Naxos have a series of discs as well, but I find them a bit polite...

Cool, I never saw that before. I love well played band music, I played Bb Baritone Horn for several years when I was younger, grew to really enjoy the music. This has some potential for me. Thanks!

I saw it was free on Prime - so you can listen and see if you like it. I have all the Heritage of the March collection and sound does vary, but it's mostly good.

All hail Sousa.  I enjoy many non-Sousa marches, but he knew what he was doing.

really no Sousa Thread before this?????

I am getting jaaacked for some fruity and frothy winds... I do need the playing to be life affirming, and the recording to pick up all the drool...

This is a classic, one of my favorite band CDs. Mostly Sousa and Gould but a smattering of other composers' marches too (like Meacham's American Patrol).

Just to update, I've been going through this steadily since I posted about it. I wasn't planning to, but got sucked into it! :) The sound is bit more congested than I remembered, but still managed to get hooked, so I guess it didn't bother me much. The performances are quite good and very much 'marchable'. I still recommend it, but if state of the art sound is a requirement, you will need to sample first.
