Stupid poll time again. ;D

You know what to do.

I had a tough time deciding, but went (in the end) with Dvorak's.

Florestan

Tough choice. Tchaikovsky wins eventually.

wenn ich lache, hahaha! "

Larry Rinkel

Tchaikovsky's, with the Balanchine choreography (known as "Serenade").

Harry

For me Tchaikovsky, followed shortly by Dvorak/Suk.

I'll probably give it to Tchaikovsky. I'm not a fan of this composer generally, but like this particular piece a lot.

String Orchestra Smack-Down!

Damn! I'm a copywriter. I should've thought of that. >:( ;D

I've been listening to the Tchaikovsky a lot lately (Barbirolli, Munch, and Svetlanov), so that was my first choice.

I'd actually put the Suk ahead of the Dvořák.  I think the tunes are more interesting.

I'd also include Lennox Berkeley's Serenade for Strings, a delightful work.

Tchaikovsky's Souvenir de Florence!!!  ;D

Years ago when I started to get interested of classical music I was very much into Dvorák's and Tchaikovsky's Serenades for Strings. Elgar's Serenade is frustratingly short but it set a new standard for me. After all these years I still love it while Dvorák, Tchaikovsky and Suk sound a bit boring...
Spatial distortion is a serious problem deteriorating headphone listening.
Crossfeeders reduce spatial distortion and make the sound more natural
and less tiresome in headphone listening.

These polls are always so difficult...

At the moment, it's Tchaikovsky, but I do enjoy the others very much. (Dvorak in the 2 spot, I suppose)  :)

And let's not forget Korngold's magnificent take on the genre, the Symphonic Serenade for string orchestra, op.39.

I think that Tchaikovsky's serenade might be his greatest composition. Wonderful themes, ingenious instrumentation and it always catches your attention.

Kullervo

Elgar, and 71 is right that it is too short.

Dag Wiren is my favourite and can be heard on this. If you can get the Decca twofer which also includes Marriner's performances of the Dvorak and Tchaikovsky then you've really struck Serenade gold. I have this but couldn't find it on Amazon. Maybe it's oop
Cheers
