Topic: How to embed Flash Video (like Youtube videos)

I think the Flash codes somehow don't work anymore, I do what is required but still, it doesn't work.
I replaced watch by /v/a/

No your War and Peace flash works.  The other flash that didn't was removed due to copyright infringement, it has nothing to do with this forum, it was done by youtube itself.  It happens all of the time because it's actually illegal to post clips of movies.

Now as I understand this, Rob introduced this flash possibilities, so that we may use it. Being quite enthusiastic about it. There is no mention of a limit in postings video's from you tube.
I think its a marvelous way to enhance the value of a posting considerably. Now some people say the pages load very slowly because of it. Not with me however, so that is a problem I do not experience.
Its rather fun to use this tool, so I will continue doing that, unless Rob tells me to stop it.

Harry, you are correct: early on with the new software, Rob did say that all the images (flash or otherwise) on the board were no problem from the GMG server's point of view.  However, while your system may load up images very quickly, there are others with slower computers (or slower connection speeds) for whom images take a much longer time to load.  This is also why some here have avatars and signatures turned to "off," so that image-loading doesn't delay the text showing up. 

Just something to keep in mind.

O, dear, that makes it less fun.....
Well if that's the case we cannot download youtube video's anymore, but instead give links. Pity, I started to have fun with this.
I would rather keep my signature if you don't mind, and avatar, for if all the visuals are gone, and this is all about text, well......

I was always wondering if I'm missing something obvious. Any time I want to embed a Youtube video, it's a long quest searching for the truth.

- I know the Forum has a flash tag with a default "flash=200,200"
- Now I need to find the embeddable Youtube link. It's one with "/v/" in the URL. On youtube, it can easily be found after only 12000 mouse clicks you'll find the link.
- But it's with HTML tags and all... I extract the actual URL and put it between the forums flash tags.
- Oh, and 200x200 has to be changed to the correct dimensions.
- You can almost write a diploma thesis about this.

So, after only 4 Minutes the YT video is embedded here. Wow!

I'm sure I'm missing something very obvious. Please tell me I do...
There are a lot other fora where you simply put the URL into your posting and thats it, rest is done by the forum software...

You can convert the page URL to the '/v/' URI...it takes about 5 seconds to delete the extra characters and change the question mark 'is equal to' symbol (=) to a slash. If you can remember the string 'http://www.youtube.com/v/' (or have it copied somewhere on the hard-drive), then all you need is the YouTude ID for the video. (http://www.youtube.com/v/<youtube_id>)

I wonder if Rob can make website magic by making a special button for YouTube similar to the Amazon button.

Use this template, just replace xxxxxxxxxxx with eleven character ID of youtube clip. You can find that either by clicking 'share' under youtube video and then copying last 11 characters of shortened url, or directly from address bar of your browser, 11 characters after v=

     Do you mean for HD videos? I just use the default and don't choose a resolution.

     Under "share" they have HD and time options for at least some videos.
