One of the things that I noticed was how certain trends of the 60s didn't make the transition to the 70s too well.

1) MEXICAN MASKED WRESTLER MOVIES

This was a genre that peaked around 1966-7. By 1972 the ultra-cheapness was already in full swing. What I mean is, there came a time in the prosperous 60s when even porn started looking professional. Things like cheapo monster movies could look great with the new film. But sometime soon after, it must have shot up in price.

Around 1969, it seems EVERYTH ING "LOOKS" GREEEAT... and then the cheapness set in...

2) GODZILLA MOVIES

"Serious" Godzilla movies stopped around 1966-7. In every Toho production after that, it seems the protagonist is some chubby little boy with a baseball cat who can speak to the monsters directly. The Kaiju Golden Age ended in 1974.

3) HAMMER FILMS

Probably the best example. Hammer took the curve ball of the 1968-71 phase pretty well when they kept the 1800s, but introduced the lesbian vampires. But, then when they introduced the "modern age" in 'Dracula AD 1972', well, we all know how they made only about 7 more films and basically died in 1976-7.

Personally, I'll say they were able to milk it the best and longest, but the 70s just had that way of destroying you. And you had the Friedkin "realism" directors ruining fantasy...

But, let's not look back from 1979...

I digress...

In 1970-1 we are really in an odd place.... I've been watching so many vintage clips lately and can't quite pinpoint the fashion change, but, at some point, bam!, there's that 70s shirt, and 70s stache, and 70s everything...

ok, I need to eat something ::)...

kishnevi

March 1972 I was bar mitzvahed
February 1973 my parents split up
July 1973 I visit Israel for the first (and to date, only) time, and then visit Rome for the first time (with a second visit to follow about 35 years later): my first time outside North America, and first time traveling without family present (but with adults: part of a teen tour)
October 1973 the Yom Kippur war

The events of February and July were directly connected, the other two merely apply perspective.

Hollywood

15 Dec. 1972: Australia proclaims equal pay for women. (Now if only the USA would follow this example as well).
