Steve Kilbey is the Bassist/Singer of Aussie Art-Rock veterans The Church - playing a couple of his solo albums this afternoon:

I only played Painkiller a couple of time since getting it a few years ago - I thought it was good before but I was really impressed with it today :)
Note: Monsters n' Mirages is a box-set of his first 6 or 7 solo albums and is one of the most treasured items in my collection - I spent a lot of time listening to Kilbey's first few solo records on Vinyl when I was a young adult and its always a great experience to re-visit the albums in the CD box.

Today getting his brand new album. Excited!

First spin of the box. Great transfers.

That looks great.  Does it have the original Black, Brown and Beige (January 23, 1943 at Carnegie Hall)?

The date for that work is listed as 1944-12-11/12 and it just says New York, no venue mentioned.

Okay; that's a followup and is not the entire piece; still good to  have.  But the Jan. '43 is complete and as far as I can tell the only recording of the entire work in its original form.  Very hard to find.

Gotcha.

Now trying very hard to enjoy:

I feel like starting with You Are The Quarry, we've been getting a very different Morrissey. A far less compelling, less witty, less funny, less poetic, less emotionally moving Morrissey. A far too political Morrissey. I miss the old Morrissey.

Second listen, this time through cans.  Every bit as good as their debut album.  For those ecstasy poppers out there, listen properly dosed.

One of the best.

I does nothing for me Bogey .. despite a few iconic moments tied to film imagery and a memorable theme, overall it's very skimpy and repetitive. Never again.

This is more like it ..

My first listen to this. Impressions are positive, though I can't say anything more at this point.

First, glorious spin.

I am fond of Spiritualized but I haven't listened to them in quite a while - may need to spin some of their music soon :)
