Maybe, and here are a few more brutally crossed of the list too :

Elvis Costello
Kevin Ayers
Yes
Emerson Lake and Palmer
Ramones
Marillion
Blue Oyster Cult
Barclay James Harvest
Mott the Hoople
Peter Frampton
Dr John

Definitely an aberration of taste and musical insight  ;D

One for the moment has gone through for further listening :

Boy, no Elvis C. and no Dr. John?   :(  I only have a couple of the doctor's, but do love them.  One is called "Afterglow"...love his version of "Blue Skies".  Hint:  it's on YT.   ;)

I always liked his cover of My Funny Valentine, which I had on the B side of the Oliver's Army single.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9-8nRiyrIAk

"Costello did the entire song by himself: the arrangement,  the production,  and the performance, it's just him. He recorded it at a small demo studio in the outskirts of London somewhere,  I think it was Pathway Studio. He was in a pub drinking and heard the song playing on the bartender's transistor radio and so he took a taxi to the studio and emerged into the cool morning air with this performance on a reel of tape (probably 1/4"). Who does that nowadays???"

An album that feels practically part of my DNA.

Neat story Iota!  I'll have to keep an eye out for that one.  What album did it come out on?  I have his albums:  Spike; Secret, Profane & Sugarcane; The Delivery Man (with the Imposters).   :)

Definitely +1 here. Ziggy and Hunky Dory are essential Bowie listening for me even if that puts me in a particular time frame.

I kinda like Elvis Costello (granted, I'm a cretin with execrable taste). I still remember many of the lyrics to the aforementioned Oliver's Army... "And I would rather be anywhere else but here today..." is a personal catch phrase of sorts.

Re. Ziggy Stardust, about a year ago I randomly heard the song Five Years on the radio and it nearly blew my mind. It's apparently a theme song for Extinction Rebellion, and I must have been thinking about climate change at the time. Remarkably prescient song, intentional or not.

I've never owned an Elvis Costello album, but Google yielded the link below, which says that it appeared on two albums Armed Forces (1979) and Taking Liberties(1980).

I remember him doing an album called The Juliet Letters with the Brodsky Quartet, some of whose members I knew at the time, but I can remember very little of it now

There are many Bowie albums I'd consider essential, one of the most extraordinary imaginations in rock for me.  :)

I liked Oliver's Army .. enough to have gone out and bought the single! But like you I have cretinous tendencies, so it may yet need further validation.  ;D

Five Years such a haunting track, with an ending that can be very moving I think.

Ah!  I just googled his name and the song (sorry either missed or forgot about your link at the time).  Came up with a different YT posting.

Must acquire some Bowie here at my end.   :)  I do (or did?) have a cassette of "Let's Dance".

He did that very well. It makes quite a contrast with Nico's version.

No sorry  :-[
Struggled with Costello's voice (pretty much like Van Morrison, some good tunes hampered by my not clicking with his voice).

Dr John was a style not to my liking, even more so than a problem with his voice.

Ah. I was going to say Gris-Gris is the album you need to hear.Thats the top left cover there. Unlike anything else he did. Not sure how much or any of that you might have heard.

Gris-Gris was on CD1, I think I went through most of that album then randomly on the other ones. Just didn't work for me  :(
