Mike Scott: Bring 'em All In





This is the first time that I have heard this album. I was recently introduced to it by a fellow member, Olivier [Papi Oli].

I really enjoyed the content and the music making on this album. I like the quality and tone of Scott's voice. His lyrics also have some meaning to them, for me anyway. I also like his guitar playing style and his sense of rhythm and drive. I find this music to be really reminiscent of a very active live folk scene that existed in the late 1970s and early 1980s here in Dublin, albeit a more modern idiom. So I was wonderfully transported way back then while l listened to this fine album. I particularly liked his tribute to Dublin. Well, he is a Celtic cousin and he has lived here.

Kate Bush:  Never For Ever from 1980--and no not the remastered version.  Still sounded amazing, though, on my stereo.  I was in the mood to hear "Babooshka" and as it was the first track, went with it from there.

By the way for Kate Bush fans, I stumbled across a bit of news today which you might be excited to hear:  Kate Bush has recorded a song with Outkast rapper Big Boi.  https://djmag.com/news/outkasts-big-boi-and-kate-bush-have-made-monster-hit-together

When it will be released though???

Personally, although I have heard of the group that he is (was??) in, I don't know his music.  Apparently, he's a big fan of her music.

Beth Hart's name rang a bell with me as I remember checking out some of her music on youtube; at the time, I was new to and checking out Joe Bonamassa's music (They've recorded and I also believe have toured together).     Have you heard any of his music before Irons?

Don't know Sharon Jones' music though...will need to look into it.

Checked out the link, PD. No, I have not heard of him, seems more hard Rock? Will listen more later. I do like Blues, there are some fabulous guitarists around, well Michael Burks isn't as he has passed away, an amazing player. I rate his "Hey Joe" higher then Hendrix which is saying something!

I,m listening one  my favorite non-classical band name: Of cabbages and kings the first three album per-haps the fourth also, great Visceral, brutal, uncompromising, relentlessly brutal, you need to hear this in analogue weell the first three the other in CD only

First E.P The veils things
on Sound Purge League, very intense, not metal  more destroy than any death-metal laden band, I think of them as non-metal, crusty Blues-Sludge fron transplant of Chicago, whit Bassit Algis Kysis that is a force of nature of Frontman , deep muddy pummeling, blugeoning bluesy, sludgy nosie rockers, in the end , lumping them i noise-rock simplist is wrong.

Than what about  there Face LP on sound purge leage again label, what about thee last LP The Reing is this enought  a force majeure, would willing admit like on of my friend in the  bige apple a musicologist Hunter Monn there fina opus to be less visceral than the rest.

Yesterday's listening included Side One of Rhiannon Giddens' latest album called "They're Calling Me Home" which I really enjoyed.

Also, an excellent album by Lee Morgan called "The Cooker"....particularly enjoyed the instrumental Lover Man.

Peter Gabriel's "So" plus miscellaneous songs on my friend's iPod (on shuffle).

Love Kate Bush! Though I used to listen to her a lot, I haven't heard anything from her in some time. Thanks for posting the news about Big Boi (whom I don't really know, but the collaboration sounds interesting).

And love Sharon Jones, too -- may she rest in peace (pancreatic cancer). Spent a few New Year's Eves in Washington, DC, with her and the Dap-Kings -- glorious all around.

Now starting the day with an Indonesian group new to me, Senyawa, recommended by a friend in Bali (actually from Brooklyn, but now "marooned" in Indonesia due to COVID). Anyway, Senyawa combines traditional Indonesian style with more experimental vocals. Not sure I'll be listening to them every day but enjoying as a diversion from all the Sondheim over the weekend.
