Quote from: philoctetes on June 05, 2022, 10:18:22 AMI've been listening to Mazzy Star. No clue how I missed them back in the day, as knew the name, but I just never game them a chance - that was a major miss on my part, but I am making up for lost time.

Now's as good a time as any.

Welcome back.

This didn't grab me when it came out, but I'm lovin' it now.

Fleetwood Mac: Rumours

This album is a perennial favourite of mine. I feel that it showcases the compositional and performance talents at the time of each individual member and also the group effort of the band to maximum effect.

Here's something that does not fit into any neat category, other than perhaps "world music".  (Blech.)  This disc has an hour of Rumi's poetry, along with some other lesser known poets' works, set to music of a very eastern sort.  It is all solidly unwestern, though some other composers I've heard have written works that allude to the traditions involved (eg, Tafreshipour).  The instruments and music compel, and the texts and singing work rather well.  I could do with some more music like this.

And also one of the best-selling albums of all-time. I like Rumours, but I'm rather more keen on Tusk and Tango in the Night. I like Tusk for its experimentation and spontaneity and I like Tango in the Night for its sensuousness and atmosphere.

It holds up very nicely.
