Neil Young: Sugar Mountain

This is my first time to hear this album. It is a live recording made in 1968. It is just Young and his acoustic guitar. I like it a lot but then I tend to like early Young.

I particularly like his Live at Massey Hall 1971, also in that Archive series, and also solo acoustic:

2 top-notch Neil Young albums I should revisit myself. Great picks.

On the electric side, the Live at Fillmore Archive release is up there too :

Cheers. I have just checked and I do have that. I have not heard it yet.

I definitely have that one too although, once again, I have not heard it.

Plenty in store for me then.

Neil Young - Unplugged

I had my favourite artists before this release (Depeche Mode, Beatles, Clapton, John Lee Hooker, some Dylan) but hearing Mr Soul played by complete chance in the music/CD corner shop of a supermarket deep in Brittany back then opened my ears to the worlds of Americana, Country rock, similar songwriters and many years of listening joys.

Other than some Archives releases mentioned above, I gave up on Neil Young's newer records after 2003's Greendale (incidentally the only time I saw him live was on this tour, obviously a special memory) but there's plenty to go to prior to that when the mood takes me...like now  8)

If I remember correctly I believe that "Comes A Time" was the last Young album that I bought and kept. I have moved a number on in the past.

Tonight's The Night is the newest Neil I own. Except Freedom.

Harvest Moon is an unexpectedly mellow late-night should-be-classic, for any who haven't tried it already

Might even give that another play later today

Just thinking about the Neil Young discography; he has certainly written quite a number of songs over his long career.

Can't see the image Simon.  :(

Gave in and turned on the "hot tubes" equipment last night (cooler here thankfully) and put on some Stevie Nicks followed by some Allman Brothers (both from boxed sets).

Jeff Beck Group.
The covers of Tonight I'll Be Staying Here with You (Dylan) and I Can't Give Back the Love I Feel for You (Syreeta Wright) sound great!

Neil Young: Harvest Moon

It has been a very long time since I last heard "Harvest Moon". So, prompted by recent posts and discussion:

This is indeed a very fine album. It is also a great sounding album throughout. It has great musicians and accompanying vocalists playing and singing simply but very well. It is also well recorded, produced and mixed. It is also an album that boasts a list of good songs.

Got this on a whim.
Tavern songs, folk songs, sea shanties, theatre music (including some things by Purcell) from England c 1650-1700 as it might have been performed in London Taverns. Some with vocals some only instrumental.
Might be of interest to San Antone and others here.

Thanks for the tip - I found it on Spotify and am listening to it right now.    ;)

The Very Thought Of You - 1958

Much prefer Gordon Jenkins lighter touch in arrangement here and elsewhere to a couple of the more famous Capitol regulars.
