Nobody's favourite album, but listening to this, geez, you realise how good it could have been. The outtakes are amazing, with real bass and real drums. I never realised just how much the production had ruined it.

That's a great set!  I've never owned the LPs, but I did buy it on CD years ago.  :)

It doesn't get as much love, but I'm also very fond of the second WTCBU set:

might even try and give that another play tonight

I knew that there was a second one out, but haven't heard it.  I see that they did a third volume too (30 years later); where does the time go?!

So, I was more or less a fan of Born to Run, back when it was new. For whatever reasons, I didn't care for the follow-up album. Springsteen would. for all intents and purposes lose me, with "Hungry Heart" and "Santa Claus Is Coming to Town."
Later, at college, a classmate wrote a review of then-newly-released Nebraska, and I upbraided him for discussing the lyrics exclusively, and the music not at all.

Somehow, this year, I am curious to listen at last to the album, myself:

I'm glad that random thought crossed my mind. I like this album a lot.

^By far my most played and most admired Springsteen release.

There was an excellent episode of the My Favorite Album podcast on it, if you're interested:

There's also a lot of really interesting unused songs from those session/demos on Youtube

Boy, I haven't played that one in ages myself.  Glad that you enjoyed revisiting it Karl.

A favorite of mine (particularly on long drives):  Greetings from Asbury Park, N.J.....so many great songs on there.  Love the E-Street Band too!

The second dud in a row from an old pro.  This is better than Springsteen's horrid attempt at blue-eyed soul.
