Quote from: Karl Tirebiter Henning on February 23, 2023, 10:43:58 AMSo, I like "If You Could Read My Mind," "Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald," and "Sundown." What's the fourth Gordon Lightfoot song I need?
This album was a favorite of mine when I was growing up:  Gord's Gold

So many wonderful songs:  Cold on the Shoulder, Carefree Highway, Canadian Railroad Trilogy, For Lovin' Me/Did She Mention My Name, Rainy Day People....

Odisea Negra [Eguez]

This is an album of disparate pieces of music, songs and occasional spoken words put together by the Argentinian Eduardo Eguez. He did it to celebrate the fraternity of Latin American people and cultures. It centres around the Caribbean Sea but also stretches way beyond it to capture some of the sense of the cultural cohesion and to blend all of this into a musical melting pot.
To further quote from the accompanying booklet "Black Odyssey explores the imaginative world of black Central America from its origins to the present, traversing many musical styles characteristic of that imaginative world, from the polyphonic negrillas of the sixteenth century to the Cuban habanera, son, and bolero; from the Baroque jacara to the Venezuelan merengue and joropo."

There is a wide variety of instruments used and this produces wonderful textures and sonics in a very interesting and diverse musical experience.

It is well worth a listen, Karl, if you can track it down. It is very soothing music which might help you through your current illness.

When it was first released, I quite ignored it, but I've grown curious about this album.

Heck, you need the whole Gord's Gold CD.

I suspect there are parallel universes out there where Wonder created one of the great blaxplotation soundtracks, and they point and laugh at us, the poor 'plant documentary soundtrack' universe.

But it's grown on me too. It doesn't work as am album, but if we're being honest, a few of his classic albums don't either. He focused on songs more than the LP, and here he didn't even need to try to make everything cohere.

I've always loved 'Ecclesiastes.' 'Outside my Window' is, musically, one of my favourite, toe-tappingest songs by him but with, alas, some really cringy lyrics. 'Race Babbling' is really cool, and I'm sure someone somwhere is citing it as a precursor to some more modern DAW-based genre.

Thanks for posting this, Manabu. I always like watching the spider-like finger movements of top guitarists over the fretboard.  8)

This is truly wonderful music and music making. It is a fusion of Indian music and different Western music genres. These are two masterful musicians delivering wonderfully uniquely sounding music.
