I am a fan of pop music from around 2011, but I haven't followed much pop music in the recent years. I decided to check what it has to offer these days. I listened to (Spotify) Ayra Starr's album "19 & Dangerous". Decent Afrobeat/R&B pop, but nothing mindblowing. The track "Rush" is pretty nice.

Spatial distortion is a serious problem deteriorating headphone listening.

Hanging Garden as a change of pace. Melodic death/doom from Finland.

Always excellent.

Kaunis Kuolematon - Syttyköön toinen aurinko ... more Finnish death/doom metal to cleanse the aural palate. Stunning sound world.

I'm a bit "hypnotized" by this Nu-disco track by Purple Disco Machine ft. Sophie and the Giants:

Billy Joel
Greatest Hits Volumes 1, 2, & 3

Have had Billy Joel's Greatest Hits playing throughout the month. Any GHs is bound to have omissions, but I miss Vienna and Honesty most of all, although I have the latter from his live Russia album somewhere.

I also tried to find the Billy Joel SNL drunk driving skit with Lindsey Lohan, but came up empty. :'(

Last night I enjoyed revisiting Kate Bush's "Hounds of Love".

Someone on a podcast recently caught me off guard talking about "Running Up That Hill" as they were proceeding as though the lyrics "If I only could I'd make a deal with god and get him to swap our places" meant Kate and god swapping places. I'd always assumed it meant asking god for Kate and her boyfriend to swap places, or for men and women more broadly to swap places (and walk a mile in each other's shoes).
