Quote from: SimonNZ on April 13, 2023, 09:12:13 PMSomeone on a podcast recently caught me off guard talking about "Running Up That Hill" as they were proceeding as though the lyrics "If I only could I'd make a deal with god and get him to swap our places" meant Kate and god swapping places. I'd always assumed it meant asking god for Kate and her boyfriend to swap places, or for men and women more broadly to swap places (and walk a mile in each other's shoes).
It was my understanding too that it was about Kate and her boyfriend (or a man and a woman) being able to swap places and thusly be able to understand one another better, etc.  I hadn't heard the theory that it was Kate and God swapping places!  :o

Don't know those particular albums, but I do like John Lee Hooker's music and have a couple of CDs of it.  :)

One of my favourite vocalists of any genre.

Not just these six albums.

They really liked that punctuation-by-stabby-hornblasts thing in the 50s arrangements. Pity, some otherwise fine albums now are marred by it (imo).

The Highwomen

What a wonderful album!  Contemporary country at its best.  Favorite song is "Highwomen" [Yes a rewrite of "Highwayman" but way more than that.  It brought me to tears.].  Please do yourself a favor and check it out.  Also, do check out their amazing cover of Fleetwood Mac's "The Chain" which they performed on Howard Stern's Sirius XFM show.  He's uploaded it to youtube.  Gorgeous harmony and a great arrangement.  :)
