Beth Hart: You Still Got Me

Some 2024 blues rock. . .

I haven't thought about Beth Hart since 1999's Screamin' for My Supper - an album I really liked.

I've been meaning to give that one a listen.

Sometimes I feel like she tries too hard to be Janis. But I usually like her quite a bit.

Genesis: Selling England by the Pound

Continuing my revisit of commonly recommended beginner progressive rock albums.
Love this one, especially Steve Hackett's work. My top tracks are "Firth of Fifth," "After the Ordeal," "I Know what I Like" and "Cinema Show."

Tangentially, my Physical Therapist continued his Genesis journey today, as we listened to three-quarters of And Then There Were Three. I hadn't listened to that 'un in a while.

Jethro Tull: Aqualung

Continuing my revisit of commonly recommended beginner prog albums. This one is the Steven Wilson mix, though to be honest I don't know the album well enough to know the difference. Or at least, I have not listened to it recently enough to pinpoint anything.

Both classics!  I don't know the remix, but I did enjoy the originals.  :)

Archaic Torso of Apollo

Quote from: Karl Henning on November 01, 2024, 03:06:26 PMI think you'll love Larks' Tongues in Aspic and Starless and Bible Black a lot. I haven't listened to the albums between In the Court and Larks' Tongues, so I cannot speak to them.

I approve this message (add Red to the mix). I like Court, but not as much as those 3 albums.

The album that knocked me out, though it took some time, was Discipline. I just got so hooked on it! Initially I was hesitant because it doesn't sound like the KC I knew. But you and 71dB both encouraged me to give it another shot, and I'm glad I did. (See, this forum has its uses!)

Steven Wilson's mix is good. However, Aqualung has been released many times, and many of the reissues sound decent. Of Wilson's work, his mixes of Yes albums made a particular impression. Especially Relayer, which finally sounds as good as the original LP, maybe even better.

Kansas: Leftoverture

What, doesn't everyone sing along with the instrumental segment starting around 3 min into "Wayward Son"? And maybe even do a little dancin'?

The next beginner album revisit. This is one I know some, of course. I have listened to it a few times over the years, but not as much as it deserves. I always like pretty much anything from Kansas that I have heard, from the 70s prog to the 80s AOR and even sampled some after. Have not spent much time with the Jesus Rock albums, oddly (given my background in Christian music in my youth).

It's decidedly not prog, but do you like This Was Jethro Tull?

Massive Internal Compications is comprised of Adam Flax on all vocals and Salvadore Poe (formerly Paul DiBartolo) on guitars, bass and drum programming. The song Strawberry Wine was featured in the movie The Basketball Diaries starring Leonardo DiCaprio and Mark Walhberg. All songs written and produced by Salvadore Poe and Adam Flax.

Don't know it. I really only know Aqualung and Thick.

Moody Blues: Days of Future Passed

This is such a wacky album, ranging from British Invasion rock to Psych to Space Age Bachelor Pad.

Quote from: NumberSix on November 01, 2024, 02:53:17 PMI don't really know King Crimson beyond that first album, and for a long time I was put off by enjoying it because I'm not crazy about schizoid man. But I like the rest of the album quite a bit, and before long I'll probably check out some more of their music

King Crimson constantly developped and changed their sound and style. Their second album "In the Wake of Poseidon" is similar to the first album, but not as good. You may want to skip it for now and go straight to "Lizard" which is one of my favourites.

Spatial distortion is a serious problem deteriorating headphone listening.
Crossfeeders reduce spatial distortion and make the sound more natural
and less tiresome in headphone listening.

An old schoolmate was a fan of this album. Somehow I never did give it a try. Really couldn't hazard any guess as to why.

I love the meta cheek of doing the concept album Thick As a Brick because Aqualung was popularly mistaken for a concept album.
