Yeah, that was my "time"...

In the 80s Todd Rundgren was always the critics' pet. I could never get into him, but thought I'd give this a try.  Amazing range of giants he produced over the years.
It's all good...

Of all online communities I have experienced, GMG is by far the most open-minded when it comes to different music genres. This is the aspect of this place that makes me feel the most at home. This is a rare place where I can say I enjoy the music of Kesha, Autechre, Carly Simon and Gabriel Fauré without being labeled a nutjob weirdo. Or at least I feel that way (maybe you all think I'm too far gone, but keep it to yourself out of courtesy?  :D ).

It takes some open-mindedness and (intellectual) curiosity for people to get into classical music meaning people who hang around here are likely to have an open-mind in regards of music. This doesn't mean everyone here likes everything (I certainly don't!) but at least there is willingness to give music a chance. Some people build their personality around one music genre such as metal, but for people here, music seems to be a source of pleasure and enjoyment that enriches life rather than an expression of who we are. That allows us to enjoy whatever music.

One would think developping music taste would lead to hating more (bad) music, but I feel the more I have developped my taste in music, the less I "hate" music. Instead I can tolerate music I hated before and feel perhaps indifference rather than hate. Of course there is music out there I still dislike a lot, but that's smaller and smaller portion of all music. I feel like becoming better and better at finding good things in music I considered "garbage" in the past. The more people call various music genres rubbish, the worse their music taste is I think. In general people shouldn't be very vocal about music genres they don't listen to much.
Spatial distortion is a serious problem deteriorating headphone listening.
Crossfeeders reduce spatial distortion and make the sound more natural
and less tiresome in headphone listening.

Gojira: Stranded apparently  ;).

I'm looking after my neighbours' cat this week while they're in Portugal so on an impulse tried saying "Alexa, play technical death metal" with very satisfying results (after I'd said "Alexa, louder") a few times  8) .

The music however is coming out of this display that looks like a smartphone. I can see some speakers with "Sonos" on in the room - does anyone know the magic words?  >:D

steve ridgway

Found the words and might have accidentally touched something >:D . Crikey, those Sonos speakers are loud!  :o

I wanted to give my wife some music for her birthday but the charity shop was a bit light on technical death metal  :-* .

While looking at that bit of classical music for @hopefullytrusting just now, YouTube put some tempting looking reaction videos in its suggestions for me. I gave in to temptation  >:D .

Oh, that may be a bridge too far for me. I find most reaction videos really annoying and fake. Although, I do listen to some rare, vinyl collectors, but they get so few views that I suspect they are serious about their collecting. :)

Okay, I admit @steve ridgway was right.

That was an awesome reaction! They definitely were not expecting that, lol. :)

Yeah. This 🙂

I like Gojira very much. Good call.

Don't know what will happen when they're back from holiday. I noticed the Alexa has a "For You" list with 25 playlists of metal, grunge, hip hop, rave, neo psychedelic, post rock and so on. Unless they just happen to have the same tastes as me 8) .

And the teenage girl's Alexa for some reason was also playing Spacemen 3 like I had on in the basement (although I was listening with the cat upstairs)  ::)

That's really sweet/good of you to look after their cat.  ❤️  You're a good egg.
