Learning just now that the 2005 edition of the Be Yourself Tonight album included this cover of the Francoise Hardy song.

And this cover of the Smiths song on the 2005 edition of the We To Are One album

And this cover of the Lou Reed song on the 2005 edition of the Sweet Dreams album

This has opened my eyes to an entirely new genre of music that is forcing my mind to expand, and thanks to Copilot - I am finding bands and music that I never would have otherwise.

My list for the weekend:

Szajner's Visions of Dune
Gauthier's Bebe Godzilla
Eskaton's Ardeur
Eskaton's 4 visions
Zoyd's Generation sans futur
Ain Soph's A story of mysterious forest
Asia Minor's Between flesh divine
Leon's Nommos
Ashley's Perfect lives
The Residents' Commercial album
Spiegel's The expanding universe
Behrman's On the other ocean
Chatham's Die donneregotter

Art Zoyd – Phase IV is my favourite of theirs.

Univers Zero – Ceux Du Dehors is another gothic "chamber rock" album in that area.

Having a listen to Eskaton - 4 Visions.

Not bad, somewhat like a toned down Magma.

Started my satanic sabbat a little late, but better late than never:

Satan piled upon satan:

Flamekeeper's Flamekeeper; Tzompantli's Beating the drums of ancestral force; Sermon of Flames's I have seen the light, and it was repulsive

Summer festival season has ended and fall festival season has begun.  To that end, I attended a local Scottish festival.  I heard a technical buttload of bagpipe music everywhere, along with a couple local groups that performed standards and original songs.  Nice.

Dia de los Muertos is only a few weeks out, and hopefully weather cooperates with the outdoor and mixed indoor/outdoor festivals.

AI mashups of metal tunes and funk style.  Funky Slayer is way better than it should be.

I will keep an eye out to see if anyone puts together Marvin Gaye with Iron Maiden (eg, Run to the Hills) or Public Enemy doing Judas Priest (Breaking the Law, obviously).  A Megadethy take on some NWA would be most welcome, too.

Though other songs from Sondheim's Anyone Can Whistle have made a bigger mark, "Simple" might be the best encapsulation of the show's weird brilliance. In this 15-minute scene, the show's main characters try to determine the sanity of some of the town's citizens.

Thanks to @Roasted Swan for alerting me to this recording, which is spectacular. The National Symphony Orchestra, conducted by John Owen Edwards, is electric in the restless score.

Prophets of Rage featured members of Rage Against the Machine, Public Enemy, and Cypress Hill.
