'Been listening to him all week, Bruce. I actually played On Land earlier as background music for reading but neglected to post it here. :)

Another fascinating one--but they're all pretty interesting.  I guess I like Music for Airports currently, after hearing the Bang on a Can crew do their version in June.

Terrific! Comes with excellent, informative booklet and bonus live dvd.

Hey! Verminous sounds a lot like Grotesque (US). Very cool. So now I'm spinning

Danke, I will investigate them. Necro's demos sounded a little grubbier, example track.

Heyyy...this is GOOD! The way it sounds, instrumentally, is a bit like the Spear of Longinus demo. It's really interesting, how they keep the songs short. A little bit like Nunslaughter as well (if you haven't heard Nunslaughter, you're missing out).

Checking out L.'s gift mp3 of Necrovation. I could tell they were Swedish practically as soon as it started. Kind of like really old Dismember, but (as Beavis and Butthead might put it) : "more evil-ler" (laughing).

I'm betting you're familiar with Dissection, Lethe. Here's an excellent rendition of "Where Dead Angels Lie" on piano!

Hehe, that YT vid is very odd :D

NP: Celtic Frost - Monotheist.

Considering what a legendary band CF is, it is surprising that they had only released one excellent full length prior to this (ITP inconsistent, CL rubbish, V/N weak). Fortunately they somehow managed to produce one of the only good albums I've ever heard emerge from a band reunion after a long hiatus, which doubles this number of good albums and consolidates their reputation. I like it equally to To Mega Therion at the moment, and to produce something so "different" to their old material (this one is a mix of death, doom and industrial on the most part) must've taken some daring.

I've been too afraid of disappointment to get this (to be blunt, I only ever really liked Morbid Tales by Celtic Frost...I played Satanic Rites about 10 times more than any of their music).

Now listening to Nifelheim...some of this stuff sounds so ineptly played (probably on purpose) and laughably recorded (ditto) that I kind of shrug and shake my devil's fingers in the air, tongue hanging out like Homey on a happy day. Still fun, though. Probably not a good idea for me to spin, say, Bach's Tocaata and Fugue in D minor before attempting to listen to this.

I was really put off it at first because the Myspace track was one of the worst of the album, and its style sounds obnoxious (and almost numetal) when not heard in context with the rest. It is nothing like the rest of the albums - either the Hellhammer style stuff, the fancy stuff, or the pop stuff. It is probably one of the most hostile sounding things I've heard, and while so much of it sounds superficially bad, or unusual, as a whole it's just quite crushing. It gets progressively more doomy as stuff goes on, and overall it's just... "CELTIC FROST WANTS YOU TO DIIEE" hehe ;D

Hi George, yeah this is a fun collection  :)

Just had 4 songs in a row where I owned the original 45 back when I was a 11/12 year old.

I have the 2cd set but I just noticed the image I posted says 3cd  ???

Morning!

In January I had the pleasure of hearing Martin Carthy perform life in a small room above a pub just down the road from me. I shall remember the experience for a long time. I realised a few days ago that I've never heard him play with Dave Swarbrick. I've now remedied that.

Both albums are great, though I'd say Straws In The Wind has the edge over Skin & Bone. It was recorded after a 14 year hiatus. They'd both been honing their craft individually and prove that they've lost none of their chemistry. I played both albums yesterday and am about to give them another listen.

Future Sound of London - Lifeforms

Just introduced to these fellows. I probably would have liked them more when I was first getting into the other ambient techno staples (Aphex, Seefeel, etc.).

I haven't been at all motivated to seek out that studio album, James;  but I like both those tunes a lot in divers live releases.

Nice video; seems the wrong thread, though . . . .
