Speaking of Blue Oyster Cult...

For heavier bands, besides Priest, I like Queen, Blue Oyster Cult, Van Halen, Ted Nugent, Grand Magus and early Aerosmith.

I'm weird, I never liked Queen much. As for B.O.C., how many guitar players will ever play a solo as good as "Don't Fear the Reaper"? Intense! I haven't heard Grand Magus yet, But Terrible Ted, VH, and Aerosmith Get Your Wings and Rocks are all WAY high for me

You should get some Magus, dude. Iron Will or Wolf's Return.

Waitta minute, I know Grand Magus' Iron Will! I heard it via filesharing awhile back. They are great! I have to just break down and buy the cd (it might have to wait after the new Heaven and Hell though. I get one classic Metal album a month).

This month is Manowar Battle Hymns (already bought the sucker).

You certainly have an iron will.

I'm telling ya, JB from Magus can really belt it out. And they have the crunchy, catchy riffs I like--sort of a Modern Priest, I guess. Except JB sounds more like Chris Cornell (only way tastier).

They have at least a few songs on every album that I don't very much like. More than any other pop/rock band, they have stretched my definition of what I enjoy in a rock song. One day I will make a comp of all the songs not on the first Greatest Hits album that I enjoy. For now, I am still trying to see how much more I can learn to enjoy. I am a longtime fan, but until recently only had the first Gr Hits and A Night at the Opera. So the rest of the albums are new to me.

You need Sheer Heart Attack and The Game!  :o

I have them all, I just haven't got to know them well yet. I love The Game and even more, News of the World. Sheer Heart Attack is still growing on me. The first album made a great first impression. Of course Keep Yourself Alive is still one of their best songs.

Jazz is kind of quirky, but it's good stuff. "Don't Stop Me Now" is the best song Elton John never wrote.  ;D

Of all their albums (up to The Game) Jazz made the worst first impression, but as I said I am still trying them out.

You might like The Works and Innuendo too.

Patrick O'Hearn--bass

Did O'Hearn go new age at some point? Or am I mistaken?

Thanks. My interest in them waned after The Game. I have the Works, but haven't spun it yet.

Despite being technically better recorded than a lot of things from that year, the production gives me a headache ;_:

True! But to be fair, alot of death-y releases sounded that way during that time.

Phew the reformed Midnight Oil that closed out last night's "Sound Relief" in Melbourne (a huge benefit gig for victims of the devastating Victorian bushfires) were awesome.  Peter Garrett really is wasted as a government minister IMO - he achieved far more influence for those causes dear to his heart when he was heading up the Oils.

It was terrific to see Split Enz reform for this gig too.  Usually when those guys get back together it's in the guise of Crowded House and they mainly do songs from that era.  I never liked Crowded House much but I was a huge Enz fan so it was great to see them doing those songs again.  And they were so tight!

Now on (1987):

Another ripper album cover.  Grand Funk Railroad Phoenix (1972):
