I am not that much familiar with Steely Dan at all tbh. This was exploratory listening. A friend of mine was a fan way back when and that was my only real exposure to them.
Your mention of Aja is noted.
Steely Dan was one of my favourite musical discoveries. They had 6 albums released in the 1970s before Gaucho came out in 1980. Following their artistic progression chronologically was fascinating.

Not the biggest Stevie W. fan, but I think this album is awesome.

I was never into the New Wave thing, but I do like this pioneering, classic album. Though it does feel a bit relentless if you listen to it straight through!

I recently listened to a bunch of pop/rock music that I was more familiar with by reputation than from actually hearing it, or music that didn't fare well in the world of my teenage prejudices. I never particularly liked Devo, and actively disliked their robotic persona when they were first on SNL. So I listened to this one with fresh ears, airing out decades of judgement formed in my immature years.

It was okay.

My high school years were 1986-1989 so it goes without saying I was a Bangles nut as that corresponds exactly to the group's heyday.  They all played instruments, wrote their own songs, did covers that were better than the originals, sang marvelous four-part harmony, and never got into the drugs scene.  Genuinely nice people who actually knew music.  There was so much more to them than Manic Monday and Walk Like An Egyptian.

The Black Crowes covering six tunes from the year 1972.  I mean, they cover Rod Stewart and David Bowie.  Come on!  It jolts to realize that they hadn't covered Papa Was A Rollin' Stone before.

The album's title makes one seriously ponder whatever happened to Deney Terrio, but the inspiration for the title and the music in the album are stylistically ill-suited to the choreographer's erstwhile show.
