Nick Mulvey: First Mind
Heard as background music to TV drama recently.
Really nice album that I can even play when my wife is around  :)

Out of curiosity, which drama used his music?

Music was used at the end as far as I recall:
"Courage is going from failure to failure without losing enthusiasm" (Churchill).

'The test of a work of art is, in the end, our affection for it, not our ability to explain why it is good' (Stanley Kubrick).

Sounds like quite an interesting story (I googled and read a bit about the historical events)!

The drama was good but I don't know if you can access it in the USA.

I suspect probably not unless they release it on DVD.

p.s.  I suspect that it did not end well for the shavers.

Rhiannon Giddens:  Freedom Highway.

A wonderful CD by the excellent singer (2017 on Nonesuch).  She is, I believe, originally from North Carolina and has sung and recorded all kinds of music such as country, folk, operatic, old timey and more.  What a great voice and great artistry.  And the songs that she picks!

Thoroughly enjoyed it.  :)

Some more today:  Jagged Little Pill by Alanis Morissette (probably haven't listened to that one in well over a decade!)

Followed by:  Empty Glass by Pete Townsend (ditto re listening)

Currently on:  Rufus Does Judy by Rufus Wainwright which is a fun collection of what are probably all considered part of the American Songbook--perhaps not?  He does his versions of songs notably associated with the great Judy Garland.  Wasn't certain what I would think of it, but I'm really enjoying it.  I hadn't heard much of his recordings before now, but he really has a lovely voice and am enjoying his interpretations so far.

Yes, RIP Robbie, "somewhere down that crazy river..."

Will give his debut solo album another spin tonight. A much played favorite, as is his Music For The Native Americans.

Grateful Dead, still in their prime. Live show from 12/9/1979. Most recent addition to Dave's Picks series.

I only have one album of Robbie Robertson's (that I know of though I suspect that I have more that he's played on  :)  ).  I've become more interested in hearing his music as a result of finding out about his numerous credits as music director (I believe is the title--actually, looks like it varied) in a number of Martin Scorsese's movies.  I really enjoyed watching the movie "Shutter Island" and also found the musical choices fascinating, intriguing, and fitting.  If you scroll down to (or click on the left) "filmography", you'll see all of the films with which he was involved.

Thanks for that, PD. I saw Shutter Island when it came out and liked it, though I can't remember it well now. I certainly didn't pay attention to the score at the time, so it will be interesting to revisit with that with that in mind. I do remember it having a really strong cast.

Shutter Island introduced me to Penderecki.  It also taught me that Mahler wrote a piano quartet which I had not known before.
