It's a relatively short (41 minutes) CD, mostly Sephardic liturgical hymns and romanceros, but (attention @Brian ) with about ten minutes worth of Turkish music,  including one piece composed by Sultan Abdulaziz.

Tangerine Dream - Green Desert

While being heavily remixed in 1984 and released in 1986, this music was initially composed in 1973 between Atem and Phaedra. Listening to it between those two feel proper for that reason.

From Nov. 5 at the Lederkusner JazzTage in Germany, Elvis Costello and the WDR Big Band, thanks to Arte. At 71, Costello may not be quite what he used to be, but with the fantastic band, still puts on quite a show.

Tangerine Dream - Phaedra

A favourite of many, but for me this album has always been a bit bland. It lacks the "cosmic" coolness of the albums prior to it. It also isn't as sophisticated in its use of sequencers are the following releases (Rubycon is imho superior version Phaedra's ideas). Phaedra is an important phase in the evolution of Tangerine Dream, but imho not the high point in their catalogue some fans claim.

Esquivel! - More of Other Words, Other Sounds

I watched recently a Youtube video about the music genre named space age pop that was a thing from the late 50s into the early 60s. The video suggests the master of this genre was Juan Garcia Esquivel or Esquivel!. This is fun, colourful, silly music that makes me smile if not anything else. Muzak that was a thing a decade or so later is kind of a calmer, more relaxed version of space age pop. Space age pop was a child of the early days of stereophony and that means wild ping pong stereo sound. This album by Esquivel! is listenable with headphones to me thanks to heavy crossfeed I can apply, but the soundstage is empty in the middle. Everything is on the left or right. This kind of stereophony is actually malpractise, but it is what it is and even part of the signature sound of the genre. Henry Mancini was another artist of this genre and indeed the music for the Pink Panther movies is very much space age pop. The theme music for the original Star Trek is also much of this style and why wouldn't it be?

Close to the Edge from Blue-ray, at last stripped of digital nastiness. I feel almost thrown back fifty-plus years, to the moment I first heard it, one of the very few albums that truly mattered in my youth.

So, I started with something I already like - thanks to New Vegas, the true test will be when I find a "pop" country artist I can enjoy, but best to start on a positive note, I think. :-)

Going by the complaints* I see, the general rule seems to be, the more "pop", the less "country". And indeed the country songs I seem to care about are the least "country" in terms of sticking to the genre.
Except for this one

*Perhaps more precisely, whining by middle-aged white guys who are mad that younger people pay attention to and are influenced by all the other music that's out there.

Had to check the track listening.  That is one of the better compilations I've seen, with no material omissions.  It's on par in that respect with the John Denver equivalent.

About time I try that out.
