k.d. lang: Shadowland - Still an alltime fave, and I am recalling with pleasure the reactions in the late 1980s when this disc emerged.  Lang's expressiveness and clarity, throughout her range, are quite amazing.  One (minor) quibble: the CD is just 35 minutes long.

Hi, Bruce - been a while since we've exchange posts in this thread; but I love k.d.'s early CDs (and have many) - Shadowland is a fav of mine, also (and bringing Owen Bradley out of retirement was special) - all of those country CDs are too DAMN short - not sure that they have ever figured out that the CD offers twice the time of their efforts!  ;) :D  Dave

ELECTRIC ARGUMENTS | THE FIREMAN

This is a really, really, really good album.

Really good.

Have already played it too many times to count.

Harry - I'm as shocked as Poju:o  You've really been taken in 'hook, line, & sinker' by this Italian pop singer! Do you own all of those albums shown?  I listened to a few YouTube videos of her - pleasant like an Olivia Newton-John, but was not 'bowled over' - however, 'live' concerts can be convincing - any of those albums that you might recommend as a 'starter'?

Thanks - Dave  :)

You are shocked, but why, she is so beautiful and sings beautiful, and yes I am taken in, and I do own all the albums, of course I do.
I gave you some titles to start with Dave in the Classical listening thread.

Harry - well, I've already put the 2 albums you suggested in the other thread on my 'wish list' - so quite interested in hearing this gal sing!  Thanks for the recommendations - Dave

Regarding the last one, specifically the tracks comprising this album:

Dr. Dread

Christo

... music is not only an 'entertainment', nor a mere luxury, but a necessity of the spiritual if not of the physical life, an opening of those magic casements through which we can catch a glimpse of that country where ultimate reality will be found.    RVW, 1948

Dave!  :D  IMHO lang has one of the greatest natural instruments of any singer alive.  Her soaring versions of "Busy Being Blue" and "Pullin' Back the Reins" (the latter from Absolute Torch and Twang) are stunning.  And on Shadowland I love the final "Honky Tonk Angels' Medley," with Brenda Lee, Loretta Lynn and Kitty Wells all sounding so charming.  I guess a lot of people got to know lang through Ingenue and "Constant Craving," but I like her early country-inflected recordings a lot.

I have recently developed an appreciation for the Moody Blues stuff. I have that first compilation that came out way back when. The two CD one.

OTOH, the second guy from the left looks like somebody's aunt.  ;D
