Going through Gorguts' infamous album, "Obscura."
On track 4/12... this is the most accessible song so far.

2:57-3:46 there is some kind of blues-like section.  :o Yet, it fits in somehow and sounds awesome!
Other than that, this album so far is all insanity and awesomeness. It's absolutely compelling and has that feeling that it could grow on me immensely- we'll see!  8)

Turns out the main guy in the band, is also a composer. I'm not that surprised, though, given that you almost need to have that kind of knowledge to do what they did back 10-20 years ago. "Math metal/technical death metal," or whatever their genre is, is a relatively new thing, after all.

On his myspace, you can listen to his flute concerto and viola sonata.

Very good stuff! (horrible recording, unfortunately) Really haunting opening movement for the flute concerto that is very worth listening to and very beautiful.

Have you listened to Incredibad, George?
I was just digging up a bunch of random tracks my friend gave me a while ago- stuff from SNL shorts and assorted stuff they've done and found that one and had to share it.

No, I haven't heard them. Can you recommend an album?

Lonely Island has two albums, the first one being the better one.

I'm surprised if you've never heard "I'm on a Boat," "Jizz in my Pants," or "Punch you in the Jeans," for example. Good stuff.  :D

My tweets about this CD:
"Buena Vista Social Club Presents Ibrahim Ferrer" is a jazz album so blissful it seems to exist outside time.
Ibrahim Ferrer's voice, so smooth & so smiling, could make anything sound like a love song. Which it is: the album is his ode to his music.

Absolute heaven.

Sondheim: Sweeney Todd: Live in Concert (Andrew Litton / New York Philharmonic) - Good as the original cast recording is, it's great to hear the score so well-sung - not to mention so well-played by the orchestra.

Bix Beiderbecke (1903-1931) - the premier white cornet player of the 1920s died today (Aug 6) 80 years ago in NYC (Queens) of pneumonia and alcoholism.  In the NY Times today, there was a short article on him and the place of his death.

Any Bix fans here?  I have the recordings below and will make it a Bix aural experience today. Now I bought these years ago and have not updated this selection - would love to hear about any newer compilations, especially w/ improved remastering - thanks. :)

I love that album, Philo!

I love Listen Without Prejudice even more. Heard that one?

The Heist isn't on either of their albums. Was it released on CD?
