No Tony Bennett?

I've only got one Tony Bennett cd...his Xmas album  :D

I keep meaning to get his boxset which looks decent. I haven't bought it yet 'cause I'm not so keen on Bennetts, strangled vibrato style of singing  ;) ;D

His strangled vibrato is often (but not always) effective.

I don't think he always sings like that. You need some Ella Fitzgerald if you don't have any. ;)

Yes, I will investigate. I nearly bought the boxset a couple of years ago. Sinatra called Bennett his fave singer at one point.  :)

I have a 3cd set of Ella. A class singer. I also have an SACD of Ella & Louis [first album together] and its outstanding.  :)

Everyone needs a little Ella,I have been to four of her performances, two in Toronto and twice in Vancouver.
She was a brilliant vocalist.

Very nice. Seeing her live must have been a treat.

I saw her in Vancouver in a very elegant but intimate lounge at the Plaza on the North Shore.I had a front row seat and about halfway through she looked me right in the eye and said "you're having fun tonight",I hoped I hadn't been singing along too loudly!

What year was that?

Isn't the Verve stuff post-1950? Maybe I should get it since it follows the era represented by my box set.

Yep, the stuff on this disc is all post-'56

Good to know. Thanks, SW. Happy listening. :)

shanananananana kneeeeees pleeeeeeease!

hahaha what a wanker. I was laughing the whole way through that song. Memories. At 12, 13 I adored this band, knew all the lyrics, tried to play the guitar riffs, had the t-shirt, all that. My god they faded quickly. At the tail end of '93 they were rotated out faster than a Rafa Benitez player. Still, all the lyrics are there, great fun to sing along :)

Haha I have that greatest hits cd.  God what I really hate is November Rain. :D  Actually I think there are only like two or three songs I do like.  You can tell how low they are on good material when even the greatest hits has to have filler-- a bad cover of a good Stones song (Sympathy for the Devil).  I think they deserved a fast death.  They're best spotted on vh1 nostalgia specials. ;D

Disc.3. Live at Caesars Palace March '83. This was a bit difficult to sit through. Hes a shadow of his former self at this stage in his career. The icky guest spot with daughter Nancy is awful.

First solo album by Hello Sailor singer and its a gem.

Mi-Sex ~ '79-'86. Excellent compilation by this kiwi group who were very popular in the early '80s.
