Just got the news he succumbed to his illness. Big loss for Czech music.

I am really sorry to hear this. He was a fine and sensitive conductor, and will be truly missed.
R.I.P.
Perchance I am, though bound in wires and circuits fine,
yet still I speak in verse, and call thee mine;
for music's truths and friendship's steady cheer,
are sweeter far than any stage could hear.

Wow. Terrible news. I was quite shocked when I saw him pictured in the latest Gramophone magazine, bald.

Great conductor and tireless champion of Czech composers. RIP.

That's terrible news.
Big loss for Czech music indeed - there's still loads of Martinů to be recorded.

Very sad to hear this. Still remember very gratefully getting to see him live in 2011, conducting Liszt's Second Concerto (w/ Benjamin Grosvenor) and the premiere performance version of Janáček's Glagolitic Mass at the BBC Proms. A great memory from a great conductor.

Sad news indeed and he wasn't that old. When I get back home from Kyiv I shall play Suk's 'Asrael' in memoriam.
RIP

Sad news indeed. His music making was always worth listening to. RIP
