To the Center for Clarinet...

Just listened to this - I like the rhythmic drive of the quicker section, and especially the section that begins at 1:06. The slower section is nicely lyrical. Excellent work!
So much great music, so little time...

After hearing Ibert's wonderful "Divertissment" I composed 3 short wind pieces in the 20s French style. I hope you like them!

Here is a five-part suite. The movements are brief and the total time is 8:40 The scoring is for clarinet and piano, though flute or violin can be substituted for the clarinet. 1. Rip awakes (in 7/8); 2. avoids his shrewish wife and 3. Rip and his dog (wolf) play; 4. Rip meets his adult daughter and 5. Rip settles into a peaceful life.

A chamber trio (Violin, Cello, Clarinet) for next summer. The request was for "modern, but not too dissonant." Surprise surprise...

Here's a new work. It's not particularly "modern" sounding; it's more songful in nature
For trumpet and piano...

Here's a new work for oboe, piano and strings (2,2,2,1 or multiples).

I enjoyed it.  Perhaps it's because of the weather, but I found it autumnal.

I just listened to the Jungle symphony and really liked it (some parts were hard to hear), especially the second half. The mood shifts are so natural and evocative. Did you know Peter Racine Fricker? I saw the dedication.

The 9th Sonata was bad-ass. Really exciting in the outer movements. And the slow movement was lovely--again with the harmonic shifts. Nice work!

Five years later I answer :-X Yes Peter Racine Fricker was my first teacher (besides my father).

Here's the ending of my latest piano sonata. It's highly chromatic yet tonal materials are never far away.

Thank you for sharing, I enjoyed this. Indeed, tonal materials seem to be everywhere yet they are never in control, and the texture is constantly in flux. Interestingly, both this and your Part I end with an arpeggiated triad! Is there more to this Sonata, or just the two parts you have posted?

Thanks Karl. I haven't been here too often but I'll resume checking in and listening. I hope all's well with you this holiday season.

Very nice. I especially enjoyed the Lento-Vivace movement - the ending is transcendent!

But the playlist is confusing - you linked to the second track in the list, and the first sounds like basically the same thing as the second, though the title indicates it is movement I. An earlier version of the first movement? This is a 2-movement sonata?
