You're right. What was I thinking?I haven't composed for solo flute for a reason...Of course, I use flute very often (and enjoy it!).

But, you never know:  Tomorrow your Muse may insist!

This weekend, being that of Canadian Thanksgiving, inspired me to put the finishing touches on my latest piano sketches (Op. 108) which are now named after this all-too-early event. There's no O Canada quotation ( that's in La La Land, but there is "La Cucuracha"!

Well, as long as theres conversation on flute, here's the piece I originally posted...

I just found my 4th Sinfonia. It was composed three years ago and is my longest work. This is the slow movement (some of the time) inspired by some of George Perle's theoretical musings (though it doesn't sound like it).

My latest piano sonata (16)...first two movements. All three. Check it out.

Also, I just completed these three short pieces for wind quartet...these are a bit different from my recent wind writing.

Hey, I've just revised Sinfonia 16. I changed the concertante part from Cello to Violin to clarify the texture.

Was it a registral matter?  Di you need to soloist to clear away from the accompaniment texture?

Exactly. As I thinned out the string section the solo cello needed a higher in tessitura so I made it solo violin. Much cleaner and more lyrical that way. I do enjoy cello and orchestra in modern music but this wasn't the right work for it.

From a set of four works for Violin and Piano here are two short pieces (1 minute each) I just finished up on a few minutes ago. These are for a violinist friend of my father's. Also, a piano romp.

Just completed the 2nd movement of my latest piano sonata. If you're wondering why I compose so many of these things, the answer is simple: I can find pianists to perform these, and a good performance is important to me. Larger forms for larger groups too often remain in paper form for years--though with the improved Garriton sounds it is more satisfying to hear a large work electronically-- so no one hears what you're doing. Ironically, I don't compose at the piano (except an occasional sounding of ideas), but I like the idiom. Here are the first two movements of Sonata 17

Good to see the ongoing work!

Thanks, Karl...

I have just completed my 17th Piano Sonata. The 2nd and 3rd mov. are without interruption. It's a rather short work, even for me . It's fast, slow, faster. Much of the harmony is based on a dissonant polychord as well as a maj +5 chord (01358) for those interested. I may post the score later today.

I've updated the 3 Brief Interludes Op. 117.  There is a fourth that I forgot about which is incomplete. It's a jarring, concise set as is, I believe.

I've been touching up my symphonic Ode. . I composed this in 2015 and in it I hear shades of my first teacher (besides my father) Peter Racine Fricker. It never occurred to me while composing but there it is...

I've some catching up to do in my Ron's listening, I see!  :)   Keep it up!

I've just finished the 2nd movement of my 17th chamber symphony (for 14 players). It's a pastoral work that's a far cry from the 17th Piano Sonata, which is pretty jarring. I'm sure to be tweeking it for awhile.
PS: I've made a few edits since first posting early this morning...

Today (12-1) I completed my Pastoral sinfonia (No. 17). It is two movements and around 11 minutes.  12-5-17...I have altered the17th Sinf orchestration to bring out some of the thematic material which, I fear, was too thin.

Add to that the first two short works (out of 5?) I'm composing for clarinet and piano...
